Master of Water Infrastructure and Sanitation Management Program at FCEE ITB: Committed to Addressing National and International Clean Water and Sanitation Issues
BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Recognizing the importance of active involvement in improving the quality of life for the Indonesian people, especially in the field of water and sanitation, the Master of Water Infrastructure and Sanitation Management Program at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Institut Teknologi Bandung (FCEE ITB), established in 2012, continues to produce excellent graduates capable of implementing and managing water and sanitation infrastructure both nationally and internationally.
The Master of Water Infrastructure and Sanitation Management (PIAS) program combines technical knowledge and management expertise to design sustainable and innovative solutions to address challenges in the fields of clean water and sanitation.
The Head of the PIAS Master Program, Ir. Ahmad Soleh Setiyawan, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., stated that the program has collaborated with IHE Delft to conduct the Global Sanitation Graduate School (GSGS) program since 2019. As a result, the curriculum used is an adaptation of the global curriculum developed by IHE Delft. The program receives support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, having won a grant in 2019 for educational or research funding.
“There are many benefits that students will gain from this program, including tuition scholarships, research funding, research exchange opportunities for students wishing to conduct various studies with other universities domestically and internationally, and being part of the 1,000 sanitation professionals targeted by the GSGS program,” he said.
Additionally, students can connect to a broad professional network and opportunities to collaborate with global stakeholders. The program can also join professional organizations such as the International Water Association (IWA), the Indonesian Society of Sanitary and Environmental Engineers (IATPI), and the American Association of Environmental Engineers (AAEE).
He mentioned that PIAS is a cross-sectoral master's program that prospective students with various undergraduate backgrounds in science or engineering can join. However, students must undergo a matriculation program if their undergraduate background is not linear.
He noted that studies in PIAS focus on field case studies, including field trips to water and sanitation infrastructure in Indonesia and other countries like Japan and Thailand. Additionally, students are often assigned to address sanitation issues in various areas.
With the knowledge and skills acquired during their studies, graduates can pursue careers in government sectors, industry, research institutions, non-governmental organizations focusing on water and sanitation management, or academia. Graduates are expected to have a comprehensive understanding of the technical, social, and policy aspects related to this field, with a focus on solving real-world problems faced by communities. In this study program, students will be trained to become competent technical experts, dedicated project managers, influential consultants, innovative researchers, and proactive policymakers at both national and international levels.
