MBA ITB Team Won Second Place in the CFA Institute Research Challenge 2015/2016

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - MBA ITB Team won the second place in the annual global competition CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Institute Research Challenge 2015/2016. Winners were announced at the end of the final round which was held on Friday (29/01/2016) at Bank Mandiri Club Lounge, Jakarta. CFA Institute SBM ITB invited to participate in the preliminary round held in November 2015. The team of ITB is Hanindita Guritno (MBA YP-51), David Rinaldi (MBA YP-51), Felix Terahadi (MBA YP-51), and Samodro Good (MBA YP-51) was sent to compete in one of the most prestigious competitions for students in finance this.

CFA Institute Research Challenge was a race that provides mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis for students. Participants worked in teams to research and analyze a public company, and even meet face to face with the company management. Then, each team will write a research report on the company commissioned with the recommendation of purchase, sale, or defense as well as presenting and defending their analysis before a panel of judges from among professionals. The winner of this competition will represent Indonesia in the Asia Pacific competition in Chicago, United States.

This year, each team must conduct an assessment to PT Semen Indonesia (SMGR), the largest cement company in Indonesia. Each team submitted a report early on November 30, 2015. Incidentally, some of the team members one by one alternately ITB fell ill at this time. They are very trying to adhere to the deadline, but still considered the initial report was not optimal. Fortunately, in spite of all the struggles, the ITB team was able to submit the report on time. On Tuesday (01/12/2015) CFA Institute Indonesia announced five best teams that will compete in the final round of local round on January 29, 2016 in Jakarta. Unexpected numbers, the initial report MBA ITB team gets the highest score and was elected as one of the finalists to advance to the final round. Four other teams are teams from UI, UNPAD, UBAYA, and UGM.

In the final round, five teams had submitted their final report and present their analysis in front of a judging panel made up of industry professionals and officials CFA. ITB team was determined to be better prepared to make a final report and presentation. Before the final event, the team met every day to build reports and to practice their presentation skills. Starting from the ways of speaking, choreography, until the question and answer them with the maximum sharpening.

In the final round, the ITB team was the last to present their analysis to the jury. The team was able to present their analyzes of confidence and answered all questions from the judge to defend their analysis, although it is the only team that gives hold recommendation on the stock. After all teams have performed, the judges announced the winners based on the score of the final report and presentation by all the finalists. ITB team was announced as the winner of the second with a thin score of the UI as the first winner. Followed by Unpad, Ubaya, and UGM as a champion of the third, fourth and fifth.

Although a little discouraged because they can not represent Indonesia in the international championship, the team ITB very proud because it can bring the title as runner-up CFA Institute Research Challenge 2015/2016. ITB team hoping to win the champion at the CFA Institute Research Challenge competition next.
