BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – An Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) student secured second place at the Business Innovation Pitching Challenge organized by Social Collider, Singapore. This competition was designed to resemble a hackathon, encouraging participants to innovate, create, and propose original solutions in the field of entrepreneurship.
The Business Innovation Pitching Challenge aims to bridge culture and communication between Indonesia and Singapore. The competition also provides opportunities for students from both countries to exchange ideas and build future socially impactful business collaborations. Each participant gains experience interacting with students from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and has the chance to develop cross-country business ideas.
In this event, ITB student Khurotul A’yunnina from the Mining Engineering Study Program collaborated with NUS students. They formed a team called Berburu Cuan and successfully won second place. The award ceremony was held on February 8th, 2025, at the Ayer Rajah Crescent Meeting Point, Singapore.
A Trading App for the Younger Generation
Nina, as Khurotul A’yunnina is familiarly called, developed a business idea for a youth-friendly trading application. This idea stemmed from the low financial literacy among the Indonesian public, especially among young people.
The application developed by the Berburu Cuan team is designed to be user-friendly for beginners, with a trading system packaged like a game and offering low investment risks.
In their business model, the app only takes 0.01% from every profitable trading transaction or client gain. “We also rely on sponsorships and advertising,” she said.
Moving forward, the application is planned to partner with major banks in Indonesia to create an investment system that is secure and accessible to everyone.
It Wasn’t a Trading Idea at First
Nina revealed that their original idea had nothing to do with trading. “Initially, we wanted to bring an innovation related to the interests and talents of the younger generation. The application was meant to prevent youth from getting lost when entering college, so they wouldn’t choose the wrong major or lose direction in life,” she explained.
However, after considering the potential for broader impact, the team ultimately developed the trading application as a relevant and promising solution for the Indonesian and Singaporean markets.
A Valuable Experience and a Message for Fellow Students
Nina admitted that she gained valuable experience by participating in this competition, particularly in directly collaborating with NUS students. “These NUS students are very agile. They are also friendly,” she remarked.
Despite the challenging process, Nina felt proud of the achievement she and her team accomplished. She also advised other students not to hesitate to try new things during their university years.
“We won’t grow if we always stay in our comfort zones,” Nina said.
