BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - As part of ITB Integrated Career Days 2012 hold on Friday-Sunday (25-27/05/12), ITB Career Center in collaboration with the Student Affairs held 'SaturdayLesson' on Saturday (19/05/12). The session discussed about the preparation and introduction about the career world to the students and the alumni in attendance.
The first session of the event was conducted with the presentation from HSBC team, with the theme "My Life, My Career, My Choice". HSBC team explained the importance of knowing the strengths and self potential in building our career.
"We start from the bottom in our career, and we have to compete to get up. We need a strategy to be the winner," said Ishwar. "The important thing is to match our personality with the career," he continued.
Ishwar said, there are seven things that motivate us in career. Three of them are autonomy, mastery, and purpose. "Usually we will be motivated if we have a role, feel developed, and can contribute something for someone else," he explained. Another things that can motivate are variation, friends, focus, and close to the workplace.
Beside choosing jobs according to the personality, EQ training is also essential in building a career. According to Danang, one of the team, EQ skills necessary for each individual are self awareness, self management, social awareness, and relationship management. "The bottom line is You EQ I, that means we should consider ourselves equal to the other," he added.
Career in IT
Other speaker who conducted SaturdayLesson on the same day is Riyanto Gozali from Perdana Consulting. Armed with the knowledge in IT, he delivered a presentation with the theme "Becoming a Professional Expert in the Field of Information Technology".
He explained that Indonesia is a rich country with a good economic performance. "In fact we are the fourth largest Facebook user in the world, the fifth biggest Twitter user, and the biggest Blackberry user in the world," he said.
In addition, Indonesia is also an innovative country. "Innovators in Indonesia are very good, although they are less developed," said Riyanto.
He predicted, there are ten areas of technology trends for this year: tablet, mobile communications, social media, internet, application stores and marketplaces, next-generation analytics, big data, in memory computing, extreme low energy savers, and the last is the cloud computing.
"Whatever the field we want to work at, if we want to become the experts, we have to focus on it," said Riyanto.
