BANDUNG, itb.ac.id — Students of ITB FAD (Faculty of Arts and Design) from the Cirebon campus organized an art exhibition at the Multi-Purpose Building B of the Arjawinangun campus on Saturday (19/5/2022). The event was attended by 37 participants, of which 23 students are from the class of 2019 while 14 of them are from the class of 2020. The exhibition was open to the public and lasted seven hours from 09.00 to 16.00 WIB.
The theme for the art exhibition is “Seraya Karya”, which can be interpreted as the self-actualization of a person during a creative process for a better result. In the bigger picture, the phrase is defined as a universal piece of art symbolizing great hope to transform continuously against dynamism.
On the other hand, the art exhibition was part of the academic grading of the students’ final examination. All artistries and handiworks showcased were created by students throughout the semester. The majority of the artworks were individually created, but few of them are products of collaborations, such as the rattan crafts completed by class 2020 students. Some are also made with the help of professionals during the difficult processes of the work. Other art pieces displayed in the exhibition were interior designs, ceramics, embroidery, and fashion designs.
“All artworks are made by the students,” Rochmat Wahyu, the Director of the art exhibition, stated. “For instance, students make the embroidery pieces using both manual and table looms. However, the harder parts of its creation are assisted by professionals. Nonetheless, the core ideas and designs are from the students themselves.”
“Seraya Kaya” was the first art exhibition arranged by ITB FAD students held at the Cirebon campus. Due to students’ wishes to share and enjoy their art together, the exhibition was planned and used as the student's examination assessment.
The preparation of the art exhibition took one month. The funds to run the event came from campuses, student associations, donations, and sponsors. As the next step, Wahyu added that this exhibition may be held again in the future with the same schematics. He hoped that their event would receive more attention from the university.
“We wish for the next exhibition to undergo more preparation on the required equipment and facilities. Moreover, it would be great for the event to be included in the budget of the campus so that we can showcase more impressive works from the students,” Wahyu hoped.
