Tel-IP 2012: Telecommunication Engineering Public Lectures Present Industry Practitioners

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - In response to the ever-expanding and fast-growing telecommunication technology, Telecommunication Engineering Scientific and Research Group of School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics ITB (STEI-ITB) held Telecom and Internet Professional (TEL-IP) Lectures Week. The event is a series of lectures in telecommunication and internet held on Monday to Thursday ((26-29/03/12)) in ITB Campus Center Auditorium. The lecture series is a reformulation of Kapita Selekta Telekomunikasi course where students are expected to get to know the current condition of  the industry related to their areas of study through lectures from guest speakers-mostly professionals and practitioners in telecommunication.

Unlike the previous event, Tel-IP 2012 is more focused and held in four days consecutively. The theme for Tel-IP this year is "Broadband Ecosystem and Next Wave Telecoms in Indonesia". The choice of theme is relevant with the current developments in telecommunication industry both nationally and globally in response to the new age of convergent services. The lecture series is targeted mainly to STEI-ITB students of all majors and batches, but it is open to all ITB community members.


Inviting Practitioners and Technological Communities


The event invited practitioners from the industry as well as technological communities who actively creating contents and applications for telecommunication wares. GDG Bandung, ITB Android Community, Amateur Radio Club ITB, and Civitas Sharing Sessions ITB were all present during the event. Iman Hirawadi from PT Nokia Siemens Network stated that the number of mobile services users in the world has exceeded five billion users in his presentation, "Explosion of Mobile Broadband and Changing Business Models". "There are more smartphone being producedcompared to desktop computers," Iman said. The fact sheet is a challenge for telecommunication and internet companies to create innovative solutions. Strategies implemented to answer the challenge includes the effort to increase bandwidth for contents like video.
