Terra ITB Recommend CCS technology as the Global Warming Solutions

The seminar was held in two sessions. For the opening, Prof. Dr Wawan Gunawan A. Kadir (Vice-Rector of Research and Innovation ITB) explained pilot project of CCS technology in Indonesia which is located in Gundih Field, Central Java. Gundih CCS project is the result of the cooperation of ITB Geophysical Engineering with Kyoto University and Pertamina. "Basically, CCS technology seeks to reduce the levels of industrial CO2 waste due to the burning of fossil fuels by catching it and then saving it or using it for another industrial purposes," Prof. Henry, who also serves as the project director, said.
The first session focused on the investigation of geosciences at the CCS and its relationship with the oil and gas industry, while the second session is more emphasis on the technical aspects of the implementation of CCS science. Most of the speakers is a staff of lecturers from various scientific ITB associated with this technology, ranging from engineering geophysics, geological engineering, petroleum engineering, and chemical engineering. Although this new pilot project to handle 30 tons of CO2 per day that only five percent of the total output, the future CCS technology is a solution for the environment that should be developed in the Indonesian industry.
"Actually, there are three main factors that must be taken to ensure that companies are interested in implementing this technology, the availability of geological storage space, economic value for the company, and the relevant provisions of the safety factor," Dr. Sapiie Benjamin, PhD (Associate Professor in Structural Geology, Department of Geology ITB) said. "If only pushed through legislation, companies will feel burdened because seeing it only as an expenditure. Therefore, it becomes important economic value," he added.

CCS Implementation seminar is part of a series of activities Indonesia Geophysics Undergraduate Competition (IUGC) 2015 2015 IUGC itself a biennial scientific competition in the field of Engineering Geophysics initiated HIMA TG "Terra" ITB for all students of Engineering Geophysics in Indonesia.
