The Head of Bosscha Observatory, Premana W. Premadi Won the Inspiring Women 2022 Award

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – A total of 10 female figures and institutions, Thursday (19/5/2022), were awarded the Inspiring Women 2022 from Beritasatu, one of whom is a female astronomer from Institut Teknologi Bandung, Dra. Premana Wardayanti Premadi, Ph.D.

Dra. Premana, a lecturer from the Astronomy Research Group, Faculty of Mathematics and Science, is a well-known figure at both domestic and international stages of astronomy. She is the first Indonesian woman to receive a doctoral degree in astrophysics. The Head of ITB Bosscha Observatory won the award due to her dedication to the field of astronomy.

Besides Premana W. Premadi, the jury also awarded Nurhayati Subakat (President Commissioner of PT. Paragon Technology and Innovation) the title of Inspiring Women 2022 for the Corporate Leader Category. She is an alumnus of the School of Pharmacy ITB.

The jury evaluated that the 10 figures and institutions were worthy to receive the Inspiring Women 2022 award. This award itself was held to commemorate International Women's Day and Kartini Day.

Inspiring Women 2022 begins with a screening process to obtain a list of potential awardees and ends with a final judging process. The total time that it took to finally decide who will get the awards was around four months. There are around 120 names of both figures and institutions that were proposed by independent parties and the internal team. From this number, the internal team passed 80 names of figures and institutions during the initial selection.

There are 40 names that passed the next selection phase. Then, the juries, who are consisted of names such as the Head of the National Committee of Women, Andy Yentriyani; the Head of Programmes UN Women Indonesia, Dwi Yuliawati Faiz; the Head of Board of Trustees of the University of North Sumatra, (2020-2025); Kartika Sjahrir, the Main Director of PT Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati; the Rector of ITB Reinin Wirahadikusumah; and the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (2014-2019) Susi Pudjiastuti, selected 22 figures from the list for further assessment.

Finally, eight winners were selected for seven categories (a figure and an institution were selected for the education category. In addition to that, three names were also selected for the extra categories which include the Lifetime Inspiration Category, the People's Choice (Beritasatu.com's Reader) Category, and the People's Choice (Beritasatu.com's Editor) Category.

Here are the winners of the Inspiring Women 2022 Awards:


1. Health – Siti Sumiati (a midwife in Kepulauan Seribu)

2. Education (Institutional) – Aisyiyah (the women's wing of the Islamic organization Muhammadiyah)

3. Education (Individual) – Desi RM Ayu Putri (a person with a disability and owner of a fashion school in Surabaya).

4. Anti-Violence against Women – LBH Apik Jakarta

5. Corporate Leader – Nurhayati Subakat (Paragon Technology Innovation president commissioner)

6. MSME and Economic Empowerment – Nani Zulminarni (Yayasan Pekka founder)

7. Technology – Premana Wardayanti Premadi (Bosscha Observatory director)

8. Politics and Government – Sri Mulyani (Finance Minister)

9. Lifetime Inspiration – Eny Handayani (KSK Insurance Indonesia marketing director)

10. People's Choice (Beritasatu.com's Pick) – FM Venusiana R (Telkom Indonesia consumer service director)

11. People's Choice (Readers' Pick) – Aisyiyah
