BANDUNG, itb.ac.id — Three ITB students won the 2021 Puspresnas National Student Competition for Business, Management and Finance. This event was organized by the National Achievement Center and is regularly held every year.

Joined in a MORNING STAR CONSULTING team, the three students are Tanika Octavenia Sallao, majoring in Entrepreneurship, and two Management students, namely Muhammad Ahnaf Abid and Rahadyan Pramudito Kumarasakti. “MORNING STAR itself is a picture of the rising sun and CONSULTING as our hope so that in the future after completing studies, we can pursue a career as a consultant,” said Abid, who is the leader of this team.

Dito said the selection started from the School of Business and Management scope to determine representatives from ITB. The competition has been running since April 19, 2021, and ended on September 16, 2021, consisting of three stages. In the preliminary round, they must create an organizational model for the institution according to the case analysis of the field of human capital management given and video presentations.

“There were 1,500 students and 450 teams who joined, then the top 10 teams were selected to do a case study and present it in front of the jury at the semifinal stage. Meanwhile, in the top party, only the best 5 teams were selected to work on the follow-up case, presentation, and question and answer with the judges,” said Dito.

The case given is based on an actual incident regarding two University of Indonesia (UI) lecturers who have successfully obtained funding and are thinking of ways to create an organization that can facilitate the commercialization process of campus medical device technology innovators. The Center for Medical Device Innovation (PIAK UI) became their bright idea.

“Since the preliminary round until the final, we are actually still struggling with the same case but it continues. At each stage, it will be more in-depth so that the proposed organizational design can answer technical matters,” Octa added.

They succeeded in proposing suggestions that were applicable and based on the theory of performance management. “In the final round, our presentation was said to be right on target and the understanding of the material from each individual was good so that they could crush all the questions from the jury well,” explained Dito.
Octa also explained that the organizational design offered solutions that prioritize the existing capabilities to be straightforward to implement and meet the expected criteria. Another key to victory is that they maintain consistency from the preliminary round to the final so that the judges easily understand the flow.

This is not the first time they have joined a team and participated in such a race. However, the specific topic of human capital is new to them. “We did a lot of preparation by re-reading the course materials that discussed human capital,” said Dito.

The density of busyness with each other had become one of the obstacles. Besides being busy with academic activities, they are also fairly active in various organizations. “With our busy schedule, we often have to work together at dawn. At times like that, lack of focus becomes the main problem,” Octa said.

At the end of the interview, Dito emphasized the importance of taking references and information as widely as possible, not just being stuck on campus. Experience, either training or internships off campus, will form a good mindset. “In addition, we must always learn from our mistakes and continue to evaluate, whether we win or lose when competing,” added Abid.

The collaboration between seriousness and thorough preparation was finally able to lead them to victory. In the future, the MORNING STAR CONSULTING Team wants to continue to make achievements in this kind of competition.
