The Spirit of Student Movement in The Launch of “Revolusi dari Secangkir Kopi” Novel

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - On Saturday (01/11/14), the story about student movement in ITB in the 90's written well in Revolusi dari Secangkir Kopi novel is launched in the front of hundreds of ITB students. The novel is authored by Didik Fortunadi, the alumnus of ITB class of 1993. Involved in student movement and regeneration pushed Didik to make it everlasting through inspirational writings for students. The launch was held in corporation with External Ministry of ITB Student Cabinet. In West Hall, the launch took place in the talkshow titled Mata Timy. The minister, Fatimah Zahra Sodik (Management of Industrial Engineering 2010), became the moderator of the event.

The background of the novel is located in ITB Ganesha so it would be a proper reason to launch it at the campus West Hall. Didik Fortunadi was a graduate of ITB Geological Engineering, the activist of student group of Social Science, and had a lot of experience in regeneration programs while he was studying in ITB. The romance of student movement that he experienced with his friends was written well in this novel. The momentum of national student movement, 1998 Reformation, is surely not forgotten in Revolusi dari Secangkir Kopi.

"2006, Andrea Hirata got me inspired. 'If you don't write the book, people who got involved in that moment will forget it, the people in this era moreover,'" Didik said.

"We hope that the novel will inspire you all. You have your own battle. The point is that you have the responsibility for the nation. The important thing is that the students cannot let go of the nation," Didik added.

Not only the author Didik Fortunadi was invited in Mata Timy, but also the other alumni: Fadjroel Rahman, Dr. Rizal Ramli, Anto "Asoeng", and Pidi Baiq. They all are the alumni of ITB who were actively involved in student movement in their era. They appreciated the novel done by Didik. They also shared their experience of student movement in ITB. The novel explained nicely about the regeneration programs in ITB which is one of the best in Indonesia.

"ITB is not only an institute, it is also a school of politics," Dr. Rizal Ramli said, the alumnus who once became the Coordinate Minister of Economy in President Gus Dur era.

Fadjroel Rahman, the activist in the 80's, teased the students who were there, "If you want to be remembered, don't date a beautiful actress but write."
