ITB's Vice-Rector for Finance, Planning, and Development, Prof. Ir. Muhamad Abduh, M.T., Ph.D., who also served as Chairperson of the K2R NEO 2.0 2024 Organizing Committee, mentioned that the event has been held since 2016. Through this event, ITB, PT PP, and Nibble Softworks developed the K2R NEO digital learning platform in 2023 to broaden the understanding of lean construction throughout Indonesia.

"This year, we saw an increase in participants from contractor practitioners compared to last year. It indicates that lean construction is considered 'exciting' and novel among contractors. In practice, contractors are starting to adopt lean construction, which is growing in popularity. This shows that lean construction implementation is continuously evolving, aligning with our expectations," he said. Furthermore, the Lean Construction Management Expert Association of Indonesia was established on September 5, 2024, in Jakarta. Prof. Abduh hopes this professional association will help accelerate and deepen the knowledge and practice of lean construction in Indonesia.

The excitement of participants during the competition.

Prof. Abduh added that this was the first time the K2R competition was held at ITB's multicampus, specifically at the Jatinangor Campus, in line with the growing number of participants and enthusiasm. It was also an opportunity to introduce ITB Jatinangor Campus to partners and the public.

Before the competition, participants engaged in a learning series on lean construction, delivered digitally via a learning management system. A workshop on the principles of lean construction.

In addition to the competition, participants attended a workshop on lean construction principles, presented through games led by Budi Hasiholan, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D. He highlighted the differences between lean construction and traditional practices, allowing participants to grasp the advantages of lean construction directly.

Head of the Construction and Infrastructure Management Research Group (KK KMI) at ITB, Prof. Ir. Biemo W. Soemardi, M.S.E., Ph.D.

Chairman of the Construction and Infrastructure Management Research Group (KK KMI) at ITB, Prof. Ir. Biemo W. Soemardi, M.S.E., Ph.D., congratulated the success of the event.

"This event has been held six times since 2016. Last year, we introduced the 'NEO' concept. This is a new initiative that came from collaboration, creativity, and efforts of colleagues, resulting in a platform that can be accessed more widely. It’s a source of pride that the ideas, concepts, and philosophies of making things simpler and more effective can be disseminated more broadly and quickly," he said.

Dean of FCEE ITB, Prof. Edwan Kardena, Ph.D.

Meanwhile, the Dean of FCEE ITB, Prof. Edwan Kardena, Ph.D., emphasized that sectors such as food, energy, water, and health require infrastructure involvement. In this context, lean construction can be implemented and integrated with more sustainable and green initiatives.

"This event provides an experience that may not be widely available. I would like to thank the supporters, participants, and congratulate the organizing committee for their successful efforts," he said.
