BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – The Society of Exploration Geophysicists at Institut Teknologi Bandung (SEG ITB) kicked off SEG Orientation Day 1, an event aimed at enhancing the organizational skills and professionalism of its members, on Monday (8/7/2024).
The event featured two inspiring speakers, namely Maefina Aisha Putri Tanjung, the Graphic Design Manager of SEG ITB for 2024/2025, and Clara Fortunata Wijaya, President of Boulevard ITB for 2022/2023, and Copywriter at How's Life and I Am Okay.
Maefina explained that graphic design is the art and practice of creating and combining visual elements like typography, images, and colors to convey messages or information.
"Graphic design encompasses elements such as color, line, shape, space (including negative space), element size, and value (light-dark)," Maefina explained.
Maefina also highlighted the advantages and disadvantages of studying graphic design. On the plus side, it allows designers to express their creativity without limits and offers broad career opportunities in fields like advertising, media, publishing, and technology. It also provides the flexibility to work as a freelancer or part-time. However, one challenge is maintaining a balance between creativity and client demands.
Meanwhile, Clara delved into copywriting, describing it as the process of translating what is seen, heard, and thought into illustrations or audio-visuals. The goal is to retain existing customers, attract new ones, and engage potential clients. "Our job as copywriters is to take information that may initially be difficult to understand and make it easily digestible," she said.
To excel as a copywriter, Clara emphasized the importance of understanding objectives and impacts, knowing the audience and the company's style, and carefully choosing diction. "Empathy with the audience and persuasion are also crucial," she added.
The event concluded with a message from Anindya Roro Renjani Jingga Maharani, Skill Development Manager of SEG ITB 2024, who was in charge of the event. "I am proud to have organized this event, and I thank everyone who participated. Stay enthusiastic about improving your skills, the SEG ITB’s Skill Development Division is ready to guide you in upcoming events," said Anindya.
SEG Orientation Day 1 successfully provided new insights and motivated SEG ITB members to continue developing their skills in graphic design and copywriting. This event marks an important first step in preparing SEG ITB members to become more competent and creative professionals in the future.
