A Team of ITB Students Defend Their Title in Cyber Security Competition

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Outstanding feat was achieved by Students of Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) in Cyber Jawara competition as a part of CodeBali 2018 series. The team which consist of Jason Jeremi Iman (Informatics, 2014), Aufar Gilbran (Informatics, 2013), and Muhamad Visat Sutarno (Informatics, 2013) won the first place and will represent Indonesia in Cyber SEA Games for Southeast Asia level in Thailand.

Cyber Jawara is a competition on cyber-security to find security holes and fix them. The participants varied from students to workers such as Indonesian Military who competed in this competition. The competition was held in Id-SIRTI/CC on 9-12 October 2018 in Hotel Padma, Legian, Bali.

In the preliminary, 177 teams competed until only 10 teams passed to the final. However, there were a total of 18 teams in the final, 8 of whom are invited teams. JAV team as the defending champion were among the invited teams. After winning the previous competition, they represented Indonesia in ASEAN level in Cyber SEA Games and also won the first place. Afterwards, the team advanced to international level and won 8th place in SECCON.

“Hopefully this year our team will do better than last year,” said Jason, one of JAV members. Jason said that if they win the first place in ASEAN level in Bangkok, Thailand, they will go and compete in SECCON in Japan. “As for the preparation, we do routine online exercise by practicing exercises and applying better techniques,” concluded Jason.

According to Jason, this non-stop 8 hours competition has deepened their knowledge in informatics and enabled them to apply their knowledge.
