CIREBON, itb.ac.id – The Directorate of Student Affairs Institut Teknologi Bandung (Ditmawa ITB), through Counseling and Peer Counseling, organized a workshop titled "A Healthy Mind for A Healthy Campus" at the Multipurpose Room, Building B, 3rd Floor, ITB Cirebon Campus, on Wednesday (11/13/2024).
This event aimed to equip students with the understanding and skills to effectively manage stress amid the academic demands that often burden them.
The workshop featured two speakers, Lili Nuramaliah, S.Psi., Psychologist, and Mimi Mulyati, S.Psi., Psychologist. In her opening remarks, Subdirectorate Head for Student Welfare, Ir. Hendri Syamsudin, M.Sc., Ph.D., emphasized the importance of stress management so that students remain productive while maintaining their mental balance.
Stress is a natural response to pressure or changes that require quick adaptation. It can be positive (eustress), which motivates individuals, or negative (distress), which weakens enthusiasm. Therefore, stress management is essential to help students anticipate, cope with, and recover from its effects.

There are two main approaches to handling stress: Problem-Focused Coping, which focuses on solving the problem by reducing the source of stress, such as discussing or seeking information.Emotion-Focused Coping, which involves managing emotions to create calmness, such as exercising, watching movies, praying, or sharing stories.
Students were also encouraged to adopt healthy habits such as maintaining a proper sleep schedule, consuming a balanced diet, exercising, and developing positive hobbies. Prolonged stress not only affects mental health but also has adverse effects on physical health. Therefore, in this workshop, participants were also introduced to breathing relaxation techniques, a simple yet effective method to calm the mind and relieve physical tension.
Through a combination of theory and practice, this workshop provided insights and skills that could be directly applied in daily life, enabling students to maintain a balance between academics and well-being. Good mental health is the key to creating a healthy and harmonious campus environment.
