BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Dow Indonesia, an international company in chemical industry, ties partnership with Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). On Thursday, (22/3/2018), Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Dow Indonesia and ITB was signed at Jalan Tamansari, Bandung. The signing of the MoU was done directly by the Rector of ITB, Prof. Kadarsah Suryadi, and the President of Dow Indonesia, Vichan Tangkengsirisin.
Dow Indonesia is an affiliate of Dow Chemical Company that operates around Asia Pacific region. Combining science and technology, Vichan said that Dow has a passion for producing more innovations for human life in the future. The spirit of Dow is in line with ITB's vision as Entrepreneurial University, with excellence in teaching, excellence in research, and excellence in innovation as three main characteristics.
Looking at several world's problems due to limited land or shelter, needs, such as foods, safe transportation, clean water availability, efficient energy use, long-lasting infrastructure, and agricultural products, will increase. By using research-based technology, Dow produces innovations that support the world for the better. Almost all innovation products involve industrial engineering experts, especially in chemistry. All existing matters in the world are inseparable from chemical elements, including water.
Supported by advanced technology, Dow extracts values out of material, polymer, chemical and biological sciences. It is expected that through technology-based research in ITB, there will be further development of products and innovations that have high economic value for the people of Indonesia. Hence, Dow Indonesia expressed the will to cooperate with ITB, which was preceded by a memorandum of understanding as a form of goodwill from both sides. "This memorandum of understanding is the first step to start a collaboration between Dow and ITB," Vichan said.
Rector of ITB, Prof. Kadarsah felt happy and welcome Dow's cooperation with ITB. "Speaking of chemical engineering, there are many that we can collaborate with Dow," said Prof. Kadarsah. The catalyst co-developed by ITB with Pertamina has saved nation’s expenditure. But, in order to do similar thing, ITB cannot walk alone. Through cooperation with industry then it is expected that the results of research in ITB can be utilized by industry, thus providing added economic value for the community, and nation’s progress.
