BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – ITB Visual Communication Design Students (DKV ITB) made a new history in the field of motion graphics. The team consisting of Christina Indri (DKV’19), Indriani Nur Azizah (DKV’19), and Kayla Khalda (DKV’19) managed to become the first winner of the BRIN Motion Graphic Competition 2021 for the student category.

The BRIN Motion Graphic Competition 2021 is a competition to create digital content with motion graphics aimed at high school and equivalent students. This competition consists of two stages. The first stage is the initial selection which requires the entire team to create motion graphics with “Puspitek as a center for Indonesian research and innovation” for 30 seconds. The second stage is the final selection, where each team is paired with a researcher from BRIN, then they create content from the topic given by each team’s researcher for 1 minute.

In the final selection, Christina and her team created content about the LAPAN A5 satellite. The Satellite Technology Research Center is developing the A5 Low Orbit Communication Satellite. It is planned that there will be nine satellites that can transmit data every 30 minutes for disaster needs so that the satellite is now used as a communication tool and can detect natural disasters.

When asked about the team’s difficulties in participating in this competition, Indri said it was pretty challenging. This is because Indri and Kayla have different interests from Christina, even though they come from the same study program.

Christina took the Multimedia specialization, while Indri and Kayla took the Graphic Design specialization. However, this did not discourage them from competing with 116 other teams. They also have a strategy in the division of tasks. Christina was in charge of making motion animation, Kay and Indri did illustrations and storyboards together.

Christina added that motion graphics is a new thing for them. The references they use are also minimal. Armed with only the internet and the Pinterest application, Christina and her team can’t compete with other teams.

Christina also said that the preparation for this competition was minimal even though the committee gave it a long time limit. However, this short preparation did not reduce the message they wanted to convey through their motion graphics. Christina and her team succeeded in educating the public about something quite complex.

“Never be afraid to take part in any competition. Try and enjoy the process because winning or losing is a bonus. Because besides being good for experience and we also learn a lot of new things. Especially for art students, it can add to their portfolio,” said Christina.
