BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Saturday (05/04/14), Comlabs ITB as the provider of information resource in ITB held Free Satruday Lesson (FSL) with the topics of Statistical Analysis System (S.A.S). This session was the first task for the participants of ITB's S.A.S Academy 2014.FSL that was held every once or twice in a month was not only for ITB's S.A.S Academy but also for public. Located in Comlabs ITB Building, the presentation of S.A.S assignment was attented by various university students, like Telkom university, Bandung TEDC Polytechnic, Bina Sarana Informatika, Educational University of Indonesia, and ITHB.
According to Daniel, certification manager, ITB's S.A.S Academy was a training and development program whose goal is to nurture the skill for statistical analysis prgramming. "Nowadays we use S.A.S around the globe. It is already been used in many industries but there was no sign of it inside ITB itself, we didn't even have the curriculum for it," said Daniel. On that event, all the participants in the Academy presented their project one by one and continued by a Q&A session after each presentation.
Many topics, including environment, education, economy, and also politics were raised by the participants. Yohannas, one of the participants, brought a topic about "Growth Level Analysis of Working Force in Indonesia". Another topic in politic, "Analysis of Number of General Election Votes in 2009" was presented by Wahyu Herlambang. For each project, every participants must process their data using S.A.S software, so that they can produce a modelling or forecasting for a particular issues in the future for example, Cosmas perform a forecast that concludes the majority of the upcoming stream of international tourist to Indonesia was from Asia-pasific region. "We hope that this kind of academy would stimulate discussion and sharing of knowledge. By having this program, students were encouraged to know and use S.A.S earlier, so that after they graduates they must not learn form the beginning," said Daniel.
This year's event was the foruth batch of the academy. The participants were consists of undergraduates and also graduates studnets of ITB. Before the academy begins, the participants must follow training and briefing such as workshop, task assignment, and community sharing. The training begnis with 54 participants on October untill December 2013. The selection process were administration and presentation selection. After thos phase, there were only 17 participants who were finnally join the S.A.S Programming Program that was held January-May 2014.
According to some of the participants, Vincentius Timothy (Electical Engineering 2011) and Adilan Widyawan (Mathematics 2011), joining the program was one of their lucky moments. "I got many training and knowledge, not the mention the mini-tab, SPSS program, and Wolfram Mathematics," said Vincent. The same tone was also given by Adilan. " We hope many people will attent this program in the future, because the benefit was really big especially for them who was interested with programming and statistics," said Adilan to end the interview.
