Government, Industry, and Academic Collaboration with Digital Twin for National Competitiveness

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id—In commemoration of National Technology Awakening Day, the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development (LPIK) of the Institut Teknologi Bandung held a webinar namely, “The Digital Twin for National Competitiveness” on Monday (9/8/2021). The Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation ITB, Prof. Ir. I Gede Wenten, M.Sc., Ph.D opened the webinar.

Prof. Wenten said that humanity is presently in the era of the industrial revolution 4.0 in the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic. This condition requires various industries to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity to develop and survive. It also led to the development of the internet industry.

“Industrial internet is a digitalization of the industry in modern era. Internet has penetrated into various industries through a system that connects various machines and humans. The interaction between data and humans is the basis of the digital twin concept in managing resources to increase competitiveness through productivity and efficiency,” he said.

According to the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC), the digital twin represents an entity, assets, processes, or systems. This includes attributes and behavior that aims to understand asset status, respond to changes, improve business operations, and provide added value.

Prof. Wenten said that the collaboration between government, industry, and academia is essential to understand, design, and prepare reliable human resources. “The collaboration also realizes the digital twin concept in various industrial and government sectors,” he stated.
Prof. Wenten hopes that the collaboration between those three parties would sustain, “In the end, we are aiming to reach the digital twin to increase the nation’s competitiveness,” he added.

Several speakers have attended the webinar, including Muhammad Fajrin Rasyid (Director of Digital Business at PT Telkom Indonesia), Tazar Marta Kurniawan (Director of Technology at PT Len Industri), and I. G. B. Baskara Nugraha S.T., M.T., Ph.D. (Researcher of the Innovation Center and Smart Community ITB).

Not only that, but LPIK also invited keynote speakers, such as Prof. Ir. Nizam, M.Sc., DIC, Ph.D., IPU, ASEAN Eng. (Plt Director General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology) Dr. Ir. Suhono Harso Supangkat, M.Eng. (Head of the ITB City and Community Innovation Center), and Dr. eng. Hary Budiarto M. Kom, IPM (Head of Research and Development Ministry of Communication and Informatics).
