BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Himpunan Mahasiswa Fisika Teknik (HMFT) Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) held a Student X-Peria: Book One "Journey of PKM – The Creator of Incubator "Jinjing'' for Supporting Infant's Life in Emergency State" on Saturday (3/7/2021). Ismail Faruqi, S.T., an alumnus of Engineering Physics 2014, shared his experiences in participating in the Student Creativity Week (PKM).

Ismail and his teammates developed I-Live, a portable incubator that can be carried by hand to evacuate a newborn in a disaster area. This incubator is based on electronic warmer and filtering material technologies. "The filtering material is a Porous Membrane. It is used to filter the air that will enter the incubator cavity," he said.

In its development process, I-Live involves multiple scientific fields. The heating material was studied from the Engineering Physics branch. The membrane from Chemical Engineering. One member of the development team even comes from the Industrial Design Study Program. The reason why I-Live needs that knowledge branch is to make it agronomic and easy to use.

Ismail and his teammates sent a research proposal as a first step to compete on the PKM. The next step is to follow the Monev evaluation processes which lasted for three stages. In August 2017, Ismail and his team presented their product at National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS). "The rest are some post-PIMNAS activities. We are even invited to Kick Andy," told Ismail.

Ismail himself is an active member of Kabinet Keluarga Mahasiswa ITB (KM-ITB) on the Social Politic branch in his freshman year. He had a brief experience in helping the people that get evicted. He also has many activities outside the campus affairs such as teaching in elementary and junior high schools when he was a BRI scholarship awardee. He also had a brief time in social mapping in an assisted village in Pangalengan.

"Nearing my last year at the university, I feel that I already have some experiences in socio-politics and social studies, but I still lack achievement and innovation as a student," recalled Ismail. "But then I remember the PKM event, especially the PKM-KC branch. Apart from being able to do my own research, we can make devices that can be useful for the community. So, I was interested."

With that in mind, Ismail joined the PKM. He gave tips and tricks for the webinar participant that wants to compete in PKM. He advises us to always simulate the research product; seeking professional advice; asking for support from the government; as well as maintaining a good schedule so that the PKM and the academic date do not conflict with each other. "You will be supported to qualify for PIMNAS by the Ranger PKM, the ITB PKM team. If you have the time, you can bring your research product to a conference, it will add a score on the assessment," he added.
