INFEST 2016: Plan Future Financing Through Stock Market Investment

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - On Saturday (27/02/16), the Economic Study Group and Capital Markets (KSEP ITB) held Infest 2016, a seminar with the theme "Unexpected Advantage for Your Future." The event was held at East Hall ITB, bringing 3 speakers including Dr. Subiakto Soekarno, MBA, QWP, CFP (SBM ITB lecturer), Putu Endro Andanawarih (Director of Business Development of PT Manulife Aset Manajemen Indonesia), and Lo Kheng Hong who was dubbed as the "Warren Buffet Indonesia." At the seminar, there are also booths of the asset management company for interested participants to invest directly.

The event is divided into three sessions. The first session was presented by Dr. Subiakto to discuss financial success. Dr. Subiakto conveyed that financial planning is very important to do, especially for people who are just entering the productive age. The scope of financial planning, among others; emergency funds, cash flow planning, planning education funds, investment planning, pension planning, estate planning, and risk management. In financial planning, investing is a means to achieve a goal that will be achieved. But the majority of Indonesian people have not done investment routinely. "Many people are living from paycheck to paycheck, spending money this month as it will receive a salary in the months ahead so that there are no funds to be saved," said Subiakto. To select investment products that will have to be adapted to the abilities and personal needs. In investing, one needs to know the motives or objectives to be achieved from the investment are expected. "Investment must have a motive and make money as a means, not an end," said Subiakto.

Mutual Funds as an Investment Instrument

The second session was given by Putu Endro to discuss the role of mutual funds as an investment instrument in the capital market. Putu exposed that a lot of people are put off to invest, do not know why you should invest, do not have the funds to invest, and also do not know how to invest. Saving money is not enough to meet the needs in old age because the purchasing power of money will always go down every year because of inflation. "Delaying it was expensive, start investing as early as possible," said Putu. Putu advised to set aside funds in its early investment in order to regularly invest every month. Several investment alternatives that can be chosen by the community, among other deposits, property, gold, stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. Mutual fund is a vehicle used to raise public investors, to be invested in a portfolio of securities capital markets by investment managers. Mutual funds are recommended for those who want to start investing because it is affordable, easy, and safe compared with other investments.

Warren-Buffett-Style Investing

The last session was given by Lo Kheng Hong to discuss about stock investment style of Warren Buffet. Lo conveyed that there is a lot of money circulating in the capital markets, and capital markets are a great place for someone who wants to be rich. Investing in the stock market is not only to invest funds in the company, but the investment of capital markets can prosper Indonesia. This is because the public enterprises create employment and contribute very large amount of taxes to the state so that the country can build infrastructure and facilities for the community at large. "That is said to be a hero at the moment is to provide welfare to many people," said Lo. Lo Hong Kheng experience in investing in the stock market can be said to be a hit. One of the best achievement is when Lo Kheng Hong invest in companies PT Multibreeder Indonesia Tbk where he gained investment yield of 12.500% in 5 years. In stock investing, Lo Kheng Hong applies the principle of the investment made by Warren Buffett that he has about 60 books on the investments made by the best investors in the world and read it repeatedly. Hopefully, through this event many people are aware of the importance to invest.
