IPMC 2023: Progress in Process Metallurgy Towards Sustainability: Resource Conservation, Process Optimization, and Greenhouse Gas Mitigation

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id — Metallurgical Engineering Study Program from the Faculty of Mining and Petroleum Engineering Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) held the annual International Process Metallurgy Conference (IPMC) 2023 on 12-14 September 2023. This annual event was first organized in 2008, marking their 15th anniversary with support from major organizations in the field such as Prometindo and BKT Metalurgi PII.

The theme for IPMC 2023 is “Progress in Process Metallurgy Towards Sustainability: Resource Conservation, Process Optimization, and Greenhouse Gas Mitigation”.

With the venue located in the East Hall and East Campus Center Auditorium of ITB, this international conference was held auspiciously for two days on 12-13 September 2023. The event was then followed by Indonesia Battery Forum on Thursday (14/09/2023) which was held at ITB East Hall with the theme “Fostering Synergistic Collaboration to Propel the Advancement of Indonesia’s Battery Industry”.

The Head of IPMC 2023, D.Sc. (Tech) Imam Santoso, S.T., M.Phil., and ITB Rector Prof. Reini Wirahadikusumah, Ph.D. gave an opening speech to formally inaugurate the event. Following the act, a series of performances such as Balinese traditional dance and angklung as a national musical instrument orchestra was prepared, which sparked enthusiasm from the audience. Soon after, the conference was held in multiple sessions consisting of 2 pleno sessions and 2 technical parallel sessions in ITB East Hall and East CC Auditorium.

Alongside the conference, an exhibition from 7 Industrial Companies was also showcased during the event. Over 17 research papers made by researchers as well as university students were exhibited. On the next day, Indonesia Battery Forum was held in ITB East Hall that consisted of 1 session pleno and 2 sessions of panel discussion.

With its vision in synergizing academic scholars, industry practitioners, and policy makers in the metallurgy industry, IPMC 2023 invited speakers from around the world that came from different universities, companies, government institutions, as well as professional organizations. The speakers came from 21 universities/ institutions from 5 different countries apart from Indonesia: Australia, Finland, Canada, South Korea, and France. There are also speakers who happen to be professionals from 10 metallurgy companies, such as: PT Freeport, Antam, Metso, and Indonesia Battery Corporation (BUMN). Some speakers are government representatives that came from the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs as well as the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EDSM) and representatives from professional organizations like BKT Metalurgi PII and Prometindo.
