ITB Alumni Succeed at iMapp Bucharest 2024 with the Artwork "Kala", Bringing Honor to Indonesia on the World Stage

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Bandung based Projection Mapping Studio “The Fox, The Folks”, achieved an impressive accomplishment on an international level. They secured a spot in the Winner’s League at the prestigious "iMapp Bucharest 2024" event in Romania, renowned as the largest festival in the field of 3D video mapping art.
ITB Alumni involved in "The Fox, The Folks" were Fadjar Kurnia (Visual Communication Design 2014/Creative Director), Fahry Aziz (Interior Design 2014/Producer), Nahrul Ulum (Interior Design 2014/Visual Artist), Darina Maulana (Interior Design 2014/Public Relations), Jessica Lovia (Visual Communication Design 2017/Animator), and Rolly Anwari (Product Design 2013), supporting lead in musical performance.
The Fox, The Folks became one of six winners from various global competitions who had the opportunity to perform in this prestigious event, making their achievement even more special.
The iMapp Festival, attended by more than 70,000 visitors, was held at the Romanian Parliament Building, providing a grand stage for the artists. The Fox, The Folks' victory in the “1 Minute Projection Mapping” competition in Japan paved the way for them to showcase their skills and creativity in Bucharest, affirming that local talent can compete on a global level.
The Indonesian Ambassador to Romania, Meidyatama Suryodiningrat, expressed high appreciation for this achievement. This emphasized the importance of art in bridging cultures between nations.
The artwork “Kala” presented by The Fox, The Folks drew inspiration from Indonesian folklore about Bhatara Kala, the god of time and destruction. In their performance, the stunning visuals captivated the audience, portraying an extensive narrative of Bhatara Kala's birth from the meeting of day and night, which caused an imbalance in the universe.
The themes of transformation, balance, and the struggle between chaos and order served as the central thread of this work, delivering visuals rich in dynamics and depth. With an innovative approach, The Fox, The Folks brought Indonesian mythology to life, whilst also presenting a universal message about the importance of harmony to the circle of life.
Their work showcased at the Romanian Parliament was truly impressive, resulting in gasps of awe from the audience during the performance in Bucharest. With this achievement, The Fox, The Folks not only brought honor to Indonesia on an international level but also proved that Indonesian digital art can compete on a global scale. They successfully lifted local culture through innovative contemporary art media.
