ITB and Unram Officially Opens Joint Post for Lombok Earthquake Relief

LOMBOK, itb.ac.id – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) and Universitas Mataram (Unram) officially opens joint posts for Lombok earthquake disaster relief center in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on Saturday (15/9/2018). The post, located in Medana village, Tanjung district, North Lombok will function as coordination center of ITB-Unram’s disaster relief action.
The official opening is the end of the initial phase and also the evaluation of the activities of ITB’s task force. ITB-Unram post was built in cooperation with LAPI-ITB Foundation, PT. Abyor, ITB Alumni Association and Solidarity Forever Foundation. The official opening was also attended by the Head of Unram’s Institute of Research and Community Service (LPPM-Unram), Dr. Muhammad Ali, Secretary for Community Service of LPPM-ITB Dr. Irwan Meilano, representatives of North Lombok Government, ITB Alumni, PT. Abyor, and study service students of Unram
Vice Rector of Unram, Prof. Lalu Wiresapto Karyadi expressed his sincere thanks to ITB for all the support during post-disaster rehabilitation in Lombok. He said that, Unram will be open to any initiation developed by ITB for people of Lombok.
Meanwhile, Head of LPPM-Unram, Dr. Muhammad Ali also expressed his sincere thanks to ITB who has given many aids since the beginning; from building assessment in Unram Campus, hospitals, schools; clean water management and proposals related to disaster-resistant spatial planning. “The post we have built can be a place for discussion about what is needed by the people. We become the bridge to government policy,” he said
Representing ITB, Irwan Meilano said that the efforts ITB has conducted in aiding Lombok started with the formation of Task Force. After the first earthquake occurred, his team had deployed a team to install sensor devices. “Other team worked by installing GPS, seeing landslide potential, and other team went around Lombok specifically to look for water,” he said.
The post is a public facility available for many uses such as public health center. He added that right now, Architecture of ITB is building two-storey houses made of bamboos and will complete this week, and then building sanitary facility.
After the official opening, there was also free-food market for the community under the program Unram Mengabdi. The community got basic needs such as rice, oil, sugar, eggs and other farming products. For the children, trauma healing is also given.
