ITB Choir Festival XXVI 2021: A Unity of Harmonious Choir in Diversity of Cultural Patterns

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id— On August 31, 2021 to 5 September 2021, The ITB Choir Festival XXVI 2021 was held online via Youtube. Was first held in 1968, the festival is claimed to be the oldest in Indonesia. This year, FPS ITB had Avip Priatna, Aning Katamsi, and Adi Nugroho as the artistic director.

A performance from Aof PSM-ITB with two songs, a medley of Glen Fredly and Adu Rayu, a song popularized by Glen Fredly and Yovie Widianto, marks the beginning of the opening ceremony. There were approximately 665 viewers for this 1-hour-and-30-minutes-long opening ceremony.

"With the slogan of lively in harmony, the ITB Choir Festival XXVI 2021 is expected to be a place to unite and gather for choir activists who have different cultural styles," said Quinta F. (Mathematics, 2018) as the chief executive of FPS XXVI ITB 2021 in her speech.

The series of FPS XXVI ITB 2021 events was started by an opening ceremony, which then followed by webinars and workshops, Choir Exhibition, and a closing ceremony. The series of webinars and workshops was brought by two speakers from Indonesia and two other speakers from the USA who each presented different materials, conducting material; online rehearsal, technical & artistic approach; and producing virtual choirs. 11 choirs with two performance categories, including folk songs and contemporary music, performed on the choir exhibition.

Director of Student Affairs (Ditmawa) ITB, D. Arch. G. Prasetyo Adhitama, S.Sn., M.Sn, officially opened the event. In his opening remarks, he expressed his gratitude towards the high initiative that ITB students have, both in various academic and non-academic activities, including FPS XXVI ITB 2021. Many intrapersonal abilities and soft skills from student affair activities are crucial for their future careers. He believed that FPS XXVI ITB 2021 could benefit many parties, including ITB students themselves.

A performance from Batavia Madrigal Singers (BMS) remarked the end of the FPS XXVI ITB 2021 opening ceremony, with songs called Jagdlied, Op. 59, No. 6, a classic song about hunting activities, followed by O schöne Nacth, Op. 92, No.1, which tells the beauty of the night, Vous Etes Jolie, and Bahasa Kalbu, a song popularized by Titi DJ. Uptown Funk, a modern song popularized by Bruno Mars, ended the performance. The whole recording process prioritized health protocols. Both MCs have also been vaccinated, as their effort to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
