ITB Choir in Concert 2008, First Time Performing Indonesian National's Art Work

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - ITB Choir (PSM ITB) concert on Saturday night (7/6), for the first time in the world, taking masterpiece of Indonesian national, Ananda Sukarlan, titled “Jokpiniana No. 1 : An Etude on Antiphonal Dangdut”. Coloring with violet nuance, ITB Choir concert was really a success performance. Tokens with great audience appreciation, among other are foreign citizen, in Aula Barat main hall soon after the show ended. Lyrics of this modern art work were inspired by Joko Pinurbo’s poem. On his written speech, Indra Listiyanto, Conductor and Art Director, saying that performing modern art work is one of PSM characteristic and responsibility as part of choir music genre in the era. This annual ITB choir concert, Indra says, having strategic mean to pursue singer quality and vocal technique as well. Sponsored by PT Inco and some media partners, ITB Choir concert was not only carry modern art work but also exploring some sort of renaissance and romantic work i.e. Musica Dei donum optima by Orlandus Lassus, Faute d’Argent by Josquin des Prez, Ihr Musici, Frish auf! by Hans Leo Hassler, No. 1 Abendstandchen (evening serenade) by Clemens Maria Wenzeslaus, and also No. 3 Darthulas Grabesgesang (Darthula’s Graves Song) by Johann Gottfried Herder. In two sessions ITB Choir was perform 13 art works in total including modern and classic genre. ITB Choir regularly supporting ITB stakeholder and student events. Founded since February 11, 1962, ITB Choir nowadays transforming into student body that able held it own concert. In 2006, ITB Choir had successfully getting two gold medals and two silver medals on 4th World Choir Games 2006 took place in Xiamen, China.
