BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – A webinar titled "Energy Transition and Electromobility" was held by the Institute of Technology Bandung Alumni Association (IA ITB) on Thursday (17/3/2022). This webinar hosted three ITB alumni who are experienced in the transportation and energy sector as speakers.
Among those speakers are General Manager of PLN UID Jakarta Raya, Doddy B. Pangaribuan (Electrical Engineering 1987), and the Director of Operations and Safety Transjakarta Yoga Adiwinarto (Civil Engineering 2000). This event was also attended by the Minister of Transportation of Indonesia, Ir. Budi Karya Sumadi, who also gave a keynote speech for this webinar.
Budi Karya highlighted the global uncertainty the world is going through from different aspects, starting from the pandemic to the climate crisis. “Indonesia has to extraordinarily move and work in order to not get left behind. Extraordinary steps can be first done by innovating in the energy transition sector,” he firmly stated.
One of the efforts that can be done is by shifting the usage of motor to electric vehicles. “Technology in transportation will increase its safety, cost efficiency, and environmental sustainability,” he explained.
A concrete step that has been done by the Ministry of Transportation of Indonesia is collaborating with several agencies to review the readiness of autonomous electric vehicle systems in terms of design, infrastructure, and policies.
General Manager PLN UID Jakarta Raya, Doddy B. Pangaribuan said that the developing implementation of electric vehicles in Indonesia is aimed to succeed the Net Zero Emission target in both Indonesia and globally. The first concrete step Indonesia has taken towards developing electric vehicles has started since 2019.
“As of November 2021, there have already been 1.656 electric cars and 12.464 electric motorcycles in Indonesia,” he said. Besides cars and motorcycles, electric versions of other types of vehicles such as forklifts and buses have already been developed. As of right now, one of the biggest steps Indonesia has done in implementing electric vehicles is opening the first electric vehicle factory in Indonesia located at Karawang with Hyundai on March 16, 2022.
PLN has also led various programs to develop implementation of electric vehicles such as Charge.in, Indonesia Battery Holding, Smart E-Mobility, SPLU, EV-INA PLN, Charging Infrastructure, Charger Standard, and Electricity Supply. Relating to recharging energy and energy from electric vehicles, PLN has also developed different types of facilities. Starting from home private chargers, SPLU which can recharge electric cars’ energy, electric cars and street vendors. Right now, there already are 1,786 SPLU, 6 SPBKLU, and 19 SPKLU in Indonesia.
Then, the presentation of the second topic is delivered by the Director of Operations and Safety Transjakarta Yoga Adiwinarto. Yoga starts his presentation by giving a general picture regarding Transjakarta’s service. “Transjakarta owns 3.590 bus units, 22 operators, 123.8 million customers, 6 service categories, and a corridor length of up to 394.4 km for 167 routes," explained Yoga.
Right now, Transjakarta is in the middle of carrying out the electrification commitment set by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. The nearest target set is to achieve an emission level of 50?low the baseline by 2050. The first concrete step to be implemented is to establish a regulation to only have zero-emission buses from 2025.
“In 2025, the proportion of electric buses in Transjakarta is targeted to reach 51% and 100% by the year 2030,” he said.
This huge step started in 2022 by holding 30 low entry bus units with a 324 kWh battery capacity that has operated since March 4, 2022, and 10 charger units.
