ITB Marks 91-Years Milestone as the Pioneer of Engineering Studies in Indonesia

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - The 91 years that ITB has gone through since it was founded in 1920 as the pioneer of Indonesia's high education in engineering was commemmorated last July in the Campus East Hall. The event was an assembly which agendas comprise of granting awards to important figures in engineering, scientific speech by Hatta Rajasa (Coordinating Minister of Finance) and Mohammad Nuh (Minister of Education), and official agreement signing between ITB and the Ministry of Ocean and Fishery Affairs.
Exactly 91 years ago, the Technische Hoogeschool (TH) built by the Dutch colonialists was an institute that then became ITB. After several change of names, on the independence day, the school changed its name into University of Indonesia, which then divided itself into two; the University of Indonesia, for social studies, and the Bandung Institute of Technology, concentrating in scientific and engineering studies.

Awards

Also part of the event was awards granting to 11 figures seen as important in the development of education, arts, and entrepreneurship.

ITB also signed an agreement of collaboration with the Ministry of Ocean and Fishery Affairs in developing and applying the aquaculture recirculation system technology for fish farms in Indonesia. The technology will be utilized and further developed by the School of Life Sciences and Technology, a faculty in ITB focusing on biological sciences.
