Although at a glance Engineering Management seemed similar to Industrial Engineering, Ari pointed that the purposes of the two majors are different.
"The purpose of Engineering Management is to design a new, innovative system, while the purpose of Industrial Engineering is to increase the productivity of the system, the two should operate side by side." Mugi reiterated Ari's statement that Engineering Management is needed to balance the rapid technological progress and the increasingly aggressive competition on global scale. " We need more professionals who undersatnd the condition to design and manage an industry." He also stressed that creativity and innovation will be the key of an industry's success.
For the second session, Engineering Management students hosted a sharing session and discussion. One of the speakers is M. Alifa Farhan, winner of Nutrifood Leadership Award 2011. Intan Khalida, one of the participants from SMAN 8 Jakarta, said that the lively discussion satisfied his curiosity. Intan, who is very interested in engineering and management, said that now she understands the difference between the Engineering Management and Industrial Engineering majors and gets more interested in studying Engineering Management. "I'm very grateful that ITB opend the program," she said. Project Officer of Engineering Management Info Day, Adhitya Brian (Engineering Management 2010) hoped that Engineering Management is getting more known in ITB as well as in Indonesia. Aditya also hoped the event can help first year FIndustrial Engineering students to decide their major.
