BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Three students of Institut Teknologi Bandung the general winner of 2019 Unmanned Solar-Powered Car (KMSTA) organized by Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Yogyakarta on 21-22 September 2019. ITB received the award after two teams won 1st place of Straight Trajectory and 2nd Place of Race categories.

The team for Straight Trajectory consist of members Sidi Budisina Baharuddin (Material Engineering 2017), Raka Al Thareq (Material Engineering 2017), Raka Bimo Avianto (Mechanical Engineering 2017), Akhmad Razi (Mechanical Engineering 2017), and Tiya Khairina Izzati (Material Engineering 2017) under advisory of Dr. Aditianto Ramelan. The team for Race category, Ganesolar, consist of three Mechanical Engineering students class of 2017, namely Fadhlan Humala Hasibuan, Maulana Yusuf Izzudin, M. Naufal Fauzan, dan Ogya Farrosy under advisory of Dr.Eng. Panji Prawisudha. Both teams had to compete with other 18 teams from various campuses in Indonesia.

KMSTA comprises three categories, Straight Trajectory, Race, and Presentation. The first category test the speed and car voltage changes when car accelerate on 30 meter long straight trajectory. The second category saw cars racing with other cars on a 70 meter long round trajectory for 6 minutes. The last category saw presentation of each team about design and performance of their cars. “Each team should compete in all three categories, and each category have different score. So, it is possible for a team to won all three categories,” said Ogya Farrosy from Ganesolar.

Ogya said that the team have prepared for the competition since July 2019. Their team design a simple car. The components are ESC, DC motor, servo, and laser cut MDF as the material for chassis and car body. Based on the design, the car have low power efficiency but is resilient. “During competition, battery voltage are slightly reduced but still good,” he said.

The other team from ITB, Light Project Team, design a car using solar cell modular without protection layer to simplify repairment. Costly and fragile, but the design shows relatively high power efficiency and hence bring the team to won the 1st place.

For the team, well technical preparedness is the key in their participation to prevent sudden changes. Communication and coordination with adviser are also important to make sure everything goes smoothly.
