JATINANGOR, itb.ac.id – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) conducted a socialization event on the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (PPKS) on Saturday (7/9/2024) at the ITB Futsal & Tennis GOR (Extension), Jatinangor Campus, Sumedang Regency.

This event was part of the 2024 ITB Student Family Study Orientation (OSKM) series, aimed at raising awareness among new students about these critical issues and reinforcing a campus culture that values the rights and safety of all its members. Around 5.000 new students attended the event.

The event was opened with remarks from ITB's Rector, Prof. Reini Wirahadikusumah, Ph.D., and the Director of the ITB Jatinangor Campus, Prof. Ir. Agus Jatnika Effendi, Ph.D. In her address, Prof. Reini emphasized ITB's commitment to preventing sexual violence, in alignment with the Ministry of Education's Regulation No. 30 of 2021.

Prof. Reini also mentioned that ITB has established a Rector's Regulation on Guidelines for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence of 2024 to address areas that can be further regulated within the university environment.

"Therefore, we have prepared the Rector’s Regulation as a guideline for implementation," she stated.

Meanwhile, Prof. Agus provided information on the facilities available at the Student Service Center (SSC), which include counseling and support rooms designed to address cases of sexual violence. "We encourage you to make proper use of these facilities," he said.

The Sexual Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force (Satgas PPKS) then provided information on their role, reporting procedures, and available support for victims of sexual violence. The Task Force is divided into two units, namely the Prevention Task Force, responsible for outreach and education, and the Handling Task Force, which not only imposes sanctions but also provides support to victims.

The event also featured two guest speakers from the Samahita Foundation, Ressa Ria L., S.Ant., and Yuniar Wulan Dhari, S.Ant. They elaborated on various forms of sexual violence and emphasized the importance of consent in all interactions.

On the other hand, Ressa Ria further advised students on how to respond when witnessing sexual violence, particularly when a friend is affected.

"Support the victim by believing them, keeping any documentation and not sharing it without their consent, seeking help from trusted individuals or institutions—such as the PPKS Task Force, offering non-judgmental support, and respecting the victim's choices," she added.

In the final session, participants were invited to engage in an interactive discussion, aimed at fostering collective awareness about the importance of maintaining a safe and inclusive campus environment.

Through this socialization, it is hoped that new students will not only become familiar with the PPKS Task Force but also understand the vital role they play in creating a campus that is safe and free from sexual violence. This event marks a concrete step by ITB toward fostering a supportive academic environment that is conducive, safe, and ensures the well-being and academic development of its community.
