BANDUNG, itb.ac.id — Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) continues to reaffirm its commitment to creating an academic environment that is safe, comfortable, and inclusive for all members of its academic community. This spirit was reflected in the Studium Generale titled “Building an Inclusive, Safe, and Violence-Free Campus Culture,” held on Wednesday (12/11/2025) at the West Hall, ITB Ganesha Campus.

The event featured Sri Wiyanti Eddyono, Chair of Universitas Gadjah Mada’s (UGM) PPKS Task Force for the 2022–2024 period. She is also a lecturer at UGM’s Faculty of Law and the Chair of Law, Gender, and Society. Through her presentation and experiences, Sri Wiyanti encouraged the ITB academic community to strengthen values of empathy, equality, and mutual respect as the foundation for a healthy and empowered campus environment.

ITB Strives to Make Campus a Safe and Comfortable Home
In his remarks, ITB Vice Rector for Communication, Partnership, Alumni Relations, and Administration (WRKMAA), Dr. A. Rikrik Kusmara, S.Sn., M.Sn., emphasized that ITB is committed to making the campus a home for all members of the academic community—a place to learn and work safely and comfortably, while fostering a strong sense of togetherness.

“This morning, I would like to conclude that ITB is committed to becoming a safe and comfortable campus. To reach that point, we have prepared various measures so that all members of the academic community can feel safe and comfortable,” he said.

He also highlighted the importance of creating open and healthy communication spaces on campus.

“We have gained an important key phrase: this campus must become a safe and comfortable home, a place where we can communicate well,” he added.

Furthermore, Dr. Rikrik expressed his hope that the insights and experiences shared by the speaker would enrich ITB’s academic culture.

“I hope that through the deep experiences shared by our speaker this morning, we can build a responsive culture. Most importantly, our students become individuals with integrity and are able to strengthen an even better social system,” he stated.

Fostering Awareness and an Inclusive Culture on Campus

In her presentation, Sri Wiyanti Eddyono emphasized the importance of building shared awareness to create a learning environment that is welcoming, inclusive, and supportive of every individual’s optimal growth. She stated that an ideal campus is a space that provides a sense of safety, nurtures potential, and values differences as a collective strength.

Sri Wiyanti also underscored the importance of fostering a culture of mutual respect and care as a key step toward creating a healthy and just campus environment. She appreciated ITB’s efforts to strengthen systems for preventing and responding to violence, while also encouraging greater awareness among the academic community to safeguard safe learning spaces and support collective growth.

“An inclusive campus culture is not only realized through policies, but through everyday practices that cultivate mutual respect and support for one another,” she said.

Building a Generation with Integrity and Empathy

Through this activity, ITB reaffirmed its commitment to continuously cultivating the values of integrity, empathy, and equality within the academic environment. This Studium Generale served not only as a platform for sharing insights, but also as a momentum for the ITB academic community to jointly create a positive, safe, and inclusive campus culture.

The event is expected to enrich the ITB academic community’s understanding of the importance of collaboration in building an empowered and equitable educational environment.
