The workshop aims to introduce the application of life sciences to society. "Life sciences can easily apply in daily life. The workshop wants to introduce its application to general society," said Navisan Najia (Microbiology 2009), the workshop's Project Officer.
The workshop consisted of three sessions: seminar, workshop, and the case study. The seminar started the entire workshop. Rizal Anshori, one of the owner of Morfonesia, an agribusiness company, was the seminar's keynote speaker. The seminar explained how to select the seeds, how to create the medium, production planning, and the harvesting method.
After that, the participants were given opportunity to practice the skills they gained at the workshop. Thet were divided into four groups, each of which was guided by some mentors. The participants were taught how to create the medium for growth and how to plant. They were allowed to bring home the seeds they planted.
Then there was the case study. The participants were exposed to the usual problems in oyster mushroom cultivation.
This Workshop, A Community Development
In addiition to ITB civitas academics, attending this workshop were local people who live nearby. There were more or less 25 enthusiasted locals. They were specifically invited so that they gain knowledge directly from the experts, and hopefully, consider this as their choice to start up small business. "This is part of our community development," said Navisan.
"I really welcome this event," said Roni Octo Rahadian, one of the locals. "I wish events like this are held more frequently. This event is where we get useful knowledge from," he ended.
