BANDUNG, itb.ac.id—Jinan Laetitia, a student from ITB FAD Art Study Program, won the category of Best Contemporary R&B Male/Female Solo Artist at the 2022 AMI (Anugerah Musik Indonesia) Awards.
Jinan is currently studying at the Art Studio course. Born into a family of musicians, she has been familiar with music since childhood. In an interview with the ITB Public Relations Team, she mentioned that her passion for music began with her father, who often played jazz music at her house and played the piano. "My father was a keyboardist and often played jazz songs, so I was already learning music since I was a child.”
2019 was Jinan's starting point in her musical career. With her songs made using her favorite ukulele, her music caught the attention of the music label Warner Musik Indonesia. Her songs also received great responses from others, motivating her to develop her work. After creating several songs, she was contacted by Warner Music Indonesia and was contracted till today.
"My first song made with my ukulele was uploaded on Soundcloud and shared with my friends,” Jinan said. “They ended up liking it and want it to be uploaded on Spotify.”
In an interview, Jinan revealed that she does not consider herself to be boxed into certain genres; she just wants to create songs with interesting instruments and nice to sing along to. Until the recent nomination at the Contemporary R&B Solo Artist category at the 2022 AMI Awards, Jinan realized the music she created was of that genre. Her single "Vanilla" made her win the award.
Amidst the rush of responsibilities as a final year student, Jinan does not let her work limit her artistry and plans to launch her latest single. Its music video is slated to be filmed in January 2023. Several performance offers are also underway.
After graduating from college, Jinan wants to focus on pursuing music and arts. "Just do what you love. Don't get hung up on what we learn in college. The world is not static and what we learn is only the basis. In the end, we will be the ones who determine our own paths.”
