BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Student Energy Quest Challenge (SEQC) 2022 would be henceforth remembered proudly by Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). Lasting for two days, the event acknowledged the dedication of three ITB students who managed to win 3 awards all at once in the event. These three outstanding students were Azaria Haykal Ahmad (Mechanical Engineering ‘18), Samuel Dacosta Lubis (Petroleum Engineering ‘19), and Dimas Naufal Al-Ghifari (Petroleum Engineering ‘20).
SEQC 2022 is a national competition oriented in the field of energy. This event was held on Saturday (8/20/2022) in Balikpapan. Balikpapan was chosen as the location so that a case study can be conducted with the aim of discussing the energy supply for Ibu Kota Negara (IKN). IKN itself is a major program initiated by the Indonesian government to relocate the capital city of Indonesia.
The event, which was part of the Central and Eastern Indonesia Petroleum Summit (CEIPS) Award 2022, was organized quite differently. The three of them were split into three different teams, each of which was joined with students from other universities. However, the three of them still managed to win an award with their team. Dimas and his team won the competition, while Haykal and his team got second place. Samuel and his team, on the other hand, were granted the best presenter award.
Before participating in the SEQC 2022 main event, all contestants must pass the qualification phase first. Only 15 contestants were selected to proceed to the final stage. The qualification phase was conducted online, and participants were required to upload their CV and motivational video for the selection process.
The 15 shortlisted participants then advanced to the final round, where they were randomly split into 5 separate teams. This was undoubtedly a big challenge for the ITB students. “There may be several colleagues who just don’t match our tempo of work. The biggest difficulty is actually time adjustment, since most of my team members are doing practical work, so it is very difficult to find the appropriate time when we want to discuss and collaborate together,” Dimas explained.
To overcome this challenge, Dimas and his friends maximized the available preparation time to exchange ideas with their respective team members. What they did in their preparation period was not in vain. After a hard struggle, they won 3 different awards. They achieved their ultimate objective: to make the alma mater proud. “Hopefully, with this competition, we can always stay in touch with our new friends and our work can be beneficial for the development of IKN,” Azaria Haykal concluded.
