Shaping the Face of the Institution, ITB Holds Training for Prospective Protocol Team Batch 2026

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), through the Directorate of Communication and Public Relations (DKHM), organized the Training for Prospective ITB Protocol Team Batch 2026 on Saturday-Sunday, February 7-8, 2026. The program was held at the ITB Rectorate Building, 3rd Floor Annex Room, and Sasana Budaya Ganesa (Sabuga) ITB, aiming to equip students with knowledge of protocol procedures and communication skills to support ITB’s official institutional events.

The Director of Communication and Public Relations of ITB, Dr. N. Nurlaela Arief, MAB., IAPR., stated in her remarks that the ITB Protocol Team plays a strategic role in maintaining professionalism and the institution’s public image, particularly during large-scale events such as graduation ceremonies, ITB Anniversary (Dies Natalis), and events involving VIP and VVIP guests.

“You are future leaders who will play an important role in ensuring the success of ITB’s institutional events. Therefore, make the most of this training to gain as much insight and experience as possible,” she said.

Strengthening the Roles and Responsibilities of the ITB Protocol Team

In her address, Dr. Nurlaela Arief emphasized that protocol officers are not merely responsible for managing technical aspects of events, but also serve as representatives of ITB’s values, ethics, and institutional culture. According to her, attitude, appearance, as well as mental and physical readiness are integral components of professionalism that every member of the ITB Protocol Team must possess.

“ITB’s leadership hopes that students can contribute to enhancing the institution’s reputation, including through the quality of event organization and the strengthening of a distinguished campus culture with global competitiveness,” she added.

Protocol and Event Management Training Sessions

During the training, participants received protocol-related materials from Fredi Handoko, S.I.K., Protocol Officer for Executive Communications of the Bandung City Government. In his presentation, he explained the fundamental principles of protocol management, including seating arrangements, ceremonial procedures, and forms of official honors in accordance with applicable regulations and national protocol practices.

In addition, Alfi Yani, S.Si., Head of the Event and Protocol Section at DKHM ITB, presented the operational mechanisms of the ITB Protocol Team across various institutional activities. She elaborated on assignment workflows, role distribution, and the responsibilities of protocol officers in ensuring the smooth execution of academic and non-academic events at ITB.

Ethics and Communication Skills in Formal Settings
The afternoon session featured Camar Haenda Al Farabi, S.I.Kom., a news anchor at MNC Media and Jajaka Jawa Barat 2021. In his session, Camar shared insights on communication ethics, public speaking, and the importance of grooming and body language in creating a professional presence in formal environments.

“In protocol work, we are not presenting ourselves as individuals, but as the face of the organization. Small details such as the way we speak, our posture, and our appearance greatly influence public perception,” he explained.

Through the Training for Prospective ITB Protocol Team Batch 2026, ITB expects students to become protocol officers who are not only technically competent, but also possess strong ethics, sensitivity, and communication skills in supporting the institution’s strategic activities.
