ITB to Hold Tropical Camp 2012

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - This year, ITB will organize a Tropical Camp that will be held on July 2012. During two to three weeks, this international-scale event invites students to explore seven topics: Aquaculture, arts and tradition on textile and ceramics, West Java's creative industry, Indonesia's creative business, geothermal, Indonesia's underwater mission, and rural area information and communication technology.
By taking part in this programme, students will receive 3-6 credits (depending on the selected program) which may be
transferred to their home universities. In this program, not only will the students learn about academic topics related to the program, but they will also interact with international fellows, enriching their intercultural understanding, teamwork capabilities, problem solving skill and unique experience during their participation. In addition, the students will learn about Indonesian culture and tradition and exciting places they will visit.
Field Visit to Enrich the Learning Experience
The participants of ITB Tropical Camp will learn beyond theoretical lesson. To ensure first-hand experience, the participants will visit the places relevant with the topics. For the Art and Tradition in Textile and Ceramics, participants will visit Tasikmalaya and Pangandaran after the theoretical subject is taught in ITB. They will visit Tasikmalaya, the site famous for its craft industry which has been acknowledged by international world. Craft manufacturers in Tasikmalaya usually utilize the local materials such as bamboo, wood, and mendong (Fimbrystylis globulosa) and prioritize hiring local human resources. Pangandaran will be the site of training where the artist and students will learn to create new craft products.
Another topic offered in this course is Creative Business. Students selecting this topic will be invited to visit and discuss with prominent entrepreneurs who own creative industries. The combination of field study, entrepreneurship materials, and exposure to Indonesian social culture will provide the students with thorough ideas and experiences. The program will also teach Indonesian managerial practises on creative and culture-based industry.
