BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – The BinaBola Team, comprising students from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) and Institut Teknologi Nasional Bandung (Itenas), secured a spot in the Top 5 Capstone Projects in the 2024 Bangkit Academy Entrepreneur Track. This accomplishment earned them a place in the Bangkit Incubation Program, giving them the opportunity to receive up to IDR 140 million in funding from Google and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.
Team member Rahman Satya (Information System and Technology '21) explained, "BinaBola is an innovative application designed to support youth football development programs in Indonesia." With the funding received, the team is committed to further enhancing the app, which serves as a comprehensive football player management system to monitor, manage, and develop young players' abilities more effectively.
Bangkit Academy, a collaborative initiative between Google, GoTo, and Traveloka, is part of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program. It offers three main learning tracks: Machine Learning, Mobile Development, and Cloud Computing. For the first time in 2024, the Entrepreneur Track was introduced, allowing participants to take their projects to the incubation stage.
Out of 4,650 Bangkit participants, only around 200 were selected for the Entrepreneur Track, including the BinaBola team, which consists of three ITB STI students—Rahman Satya, Riandra Diva Auzan, and Attariq Muhammad Azhar—and four Institut Teknologi Nasional (Itenas) students—Rifqi Lukmansyah, Muhammad Hafidz Fadillah, Farhan Al Farisi, and Qays Arkan Chairy.
The idea behind BinaBola originated from Rahman Satya, head of ITB's Football Association, who saw significant potential in youth football development in Indonesia, particularly in Bandung. This idea was then further developed by the team, who identified a promising opportunity to collaborate with Bandung-based Football Schools (SSB), forming the foundation for the app's development.
BinaBola offers a digital solution for coaches, clubs, and football academies to monitor the structured development of young players. Key features include a web platform for SSB management and two main tools: a video-based football learning module and AI-based physical training with pose detection. Additionally, BinaBola plans to develop an AI-powered Football Match Analysis feature for automatic tracking of player and team statistics.
Moreover, the BinaBola team plans to collaborate with ITB's Football Association, AFC Class A-licensed coach Sabrun Hanapi, and the PSSI West Java Provincial Association to assist in data collection and improve SSB management quality. The team also intends to cooperate with ITB's Smart City and Community Innovation Center (SCCIC) for developing the Football Match Analysis feature using AI technology.
The development process of BinaBola was not without challenges. Differences in expertise and technical hurdles in feature integration were among the major obstacles. However, through close collaboration and mentor guidance, the team successfully completed the project on time.
The BinaBola team accepted this recognition with pride. "This award motivates us to continue innovating and exploring the potential of technology to solve real-world problems," said Satya.
Satya added that with the support of funding from Bangkit Academy, the BinaBola team is ready to continue developing its app and broaden its impact across Indonesia.
