Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Visited MTCRC Facility at ITB Cirebon Campus

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id— Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Korea, Seong-Hyeok Moon, reviewed the development of facilities and operations of the Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center (MTCRC) at ITB Cirebon Campus last Thursday (14/10). The visit was accompanied by the Vice-Rector for Finance, Planning, and Development of ITB, Ir. Muhammad Abduh, M.T., Ph.D., and Cirebon Regent Imron Rosyadi.

Research equipment for surveys at sea and on the coast, such as drones, was shown during the visit. In addition to the ITB Cirebon campus, a visit was also made to see research equipment such as the ARA Survey Vessel (at the port) for marine research and exploration activities equipped with a Multibeam Echosounder, Single Beam Echosounder, Conductivity Temperature Depth, Grab Sampler, Tide Gauge survey tool.

"Through the given equipment, ITB certainly gets a lot of benefits from the collaboration," said Dr.rer.nat. Mutiara Rachmat Putri, S.Si., M.Sc., from the Oceanography Research Group, Faculty of Earth Science and Technology (FITB). This collaboration with South Korea is the implementation of the inauguration of the Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center (PPKTK). In addition to providing grants, ITB received benefits from scholarships for master's studies (S2) for 20 ITB students.

Mutiara continued; the collaboration began in 2018. Through the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, the Indonesian government and the Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries established cooperation in the research and marine sector. Oceanography ITB then handed over the collaboration with the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST).

Last June, the Korea-Indonesia Ocean ODA Research Equipment Handover Ceremony was held. ITB is also cooperating with PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II to place ships for free at the port for ARA ships. With this cooperation, it can strengthen bilateral relations between ITB-Korea.
