KPC One-day Seminar Socializing Good Mining Practice

The seminar was officially opened with a speech from ITB's Vice Rector in Academic and Students Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Kadarsyah Suryadi. In his speech, Kadarsyah emphasized the importance of mastering the processing technology of natural and energy resources for the students. "With a knowledge about industries also energy and natural resources processing, it will be easier for young characters to explore," he said.
KPC is a mining company which is one of national contractors appointed by the government. This company had the rights from the government to refine coals in Sangatta area, East Kalimantan. Mining products, especially coal, are one of the civilization supporters and national economy's trigger with the persentation of 31% from the total of national gross domestic product. Therefore, there is a need to apply a good mining practice to add the values to the mining products without ignoring the environmetal, social, and political aspects.
In the seminar, there were present KPC's Chief Executive Officer, Endang Ruchijat, and KPC's Chief Operating Officer, R. Utoro, as speakers. Endang and Utoro gave a new point of view about Good Mining Practice concept with its all aspects. "Through this seminar, we want to clarify the wrong perception about mining," said Utoro.
Good Mining Practice is a series of process steps from the beginning to the end following the standards, norms, and settings applied well to achieve the mining objectives efficiently. This series of process have some main characteristics such as environmentally friendly, health and safety environment awareness, applying conservation principles, adding values, and able to optimize the mining process.
Besides the explanation of Good Mining Practice, there were also explained other aspects relating to the good mining practices. Some of the discussed aspects were the mining products themselves, mining as the agent of development, mining industries challenges according to the nature's condition, technological challenges, also the reclamation of the post-mining area.
