BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Jan Meyer Saragih, a student from the Informatics Engineering study program, graduated with a GPA of 3,98. For this achievement, Meyer was named as the student with the highest GPA at Institut Teknologi Bandung’s October Graduation Ceremony (23/10/2021).

"Initially I did not expect to be a graduate with the highest GPA. At first, I was surprised and of course happy. After 4 years, it turned out that I am the one who has the highest GPA, which I think is a pretty good achievement," said Mayer who was the graduate representative from the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (STE) who was present at the West Hall.

When interviewed by Public Relations of ITB, Meyer admitted that he faced difficulties in managing his time. Meyer also felt that he wasn't active enough in his organizations and university club, thus he had a lot of free time to study.

Achieving the highest GPA undoubtedly is not an easy task. Meyer's learning style is to note down what was taught in the class, rather than only listening. He felt that taking notes is better than just listening. Moreover, his learning strategy is to read his notes a few days before a test. He doesn't feel that his learning style is much different from his friends. Meyer also said that he often studied together with his friends. "I sometimes teach my friends when we are studying together, thus recalling the lessons again," said Meyer.

Meyer then tells us his impressions after studying for four years at ITB. During the first year period, he felt very happy being admitted to ITB. During the second year, he felt that it was much more chaotic compared to the first year. He also missed his graduation target in July because his final essay hadn't finished yet. He also often felt overwhelmed by the number of assignments that were given by his lecturers. But in the end, he managed to go through all of that until he finally graduated and became a graduate with the highest GPA.

Meyer's first plan after graduating is to continue his study. However, he now decided to work for one or two years before continuing his study. "It's a relief to have graduated from ITB. Finally, my final assignment is over. I am also happy that now I can help my parents who have paid for my education," said Meyer about his feelings for graduating from ITB.

Meyer then delivered a message to other graduates. "With our success in graduating in this October Graduation, it is the proof of our struggles. Hopefully, in the future, our spirit do not waver, and we keep striving forward to build Indonesia for the better."
