BANDUNG, itb.ac.id- At the end of March 2008, Narenda Wicaksono, ITB IF Alumni with three of his friends, Faisal, Raymond and Ronald were involved in an IT infrastructure development project for the combination training of Indonesia National Army (TNI). Narenda created a Unified Communication setup with DC, Exchange, Mediation and OCS on top of Windows Server 2008 to communication with mobile phones, walkie talkies and even media can be reduced to increase efficiency and effectiveness of TNI. First stage simulation training with more than 220 soldiers from mid level and with high posts from the Land Force, Air Force and Marines was done in Sesko Bandung. They used Communicators, Outlook Web Access and Live Meeting. The “involvement” of the HMIF 2005 President started from the fact that now several TNI members still use free email accounts like Live, Gmail and Yahoo for communication. Among there use public message converters to exchange strategic information. Narendra’s personal opinion was that TNI personnel were a class of their own in comparison to any other country’s army but will be much better when supported with adequate IT infrastructure system, thus improving their productivity. “As citizens of Indonesia, we cannot just leave things as they are,” he said. Happy and Satisfied. “My experience of spending more or less a week with soldiers, eating and sleeping in barracks, not bathing for several days at once was a great satisfaction which could not be valued by money,” Naren wrote in his blog. A month before, Jaware Imagine Cup 2006 had the opportunity to attend ITB graduation. Almost 15 of the 30 of Naren’s friends planned to work overseas, along with their partners. For Naren, an offer to work overseas was tempting. Yet he felt there was a lot he could for his own country. And if all the young graduates left, who was going to stay behind to develop their own country? original article by kristiono
