BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) conducted another lecture of KU-4078 Studium Generale, this time at ITB West Hall on October 16, 2024. Organized as a hybrid, this lecture presented the External Affairs & Regulatory Director of PT Mayora Indah Tbk., Johan Muliawan, who raised the topic "Limitless Education: Building Strong Brand Loyalty, PT Mayora's Journey to Success."
In the lecture, Johan stated that PT Mayora was officially established in 1977, although the roots of the company could be traced back to the 1940s. Mayora officially became a public company in 1990, after which it continuously experienced rapid growth.
According to Johan, PT Mayora managed to have this massive growth because the company focused not only on the domestic market but also the foreign market through its expansion. Currently, 50% of the company's production is exported to more than 100 countries worldwide, and most of these products are finished goods, not unfinished ones. This showed that the high value of products generated domestically had greatly benefited Indonesia's economy.
During the lecture, Johan also explained about PT Mayora's brand, which had dominated the market, both nationally and internationally. The company even reached top positions in many regions, including the Middle East, the Philippines, Thailand, and Africa.
In addition to product achievements, Johan also emphasized the importance of innovation and collaboration in conducting business. He said that PT Mayora always strived to innovate in several product categories, from biscuits and coffee to instant beverages. Moreover, the company had been actively collaborating with other parties, including local farmers in Indonesia, to ensure the quality of raw materials.
"PT Mayora has worked together with around 70,000 coffee, cacao, and cassava farmers in Indonesia, actively contributing to the company's supply chain and local farmers to boost production," he revealed.
Besides product innovations, Johan also underlined the role of higher education in originating innovation and producing a globally competitive workforce. He also highlighted the importance of the government in supporting company initiatives towards green industry, including PT Mayora itself. "One step that affirms PT Mayora's commitment to environmental sustainability is developing the initiative in post-consumption packaging recycling."
At the end of the lecture, Johan stressed that careful planning, flawless execution, and firm collaboration were key to PT Mayora's success. He underlined that to achieve global success, a company has to always think big but also remain realistic in taking strategic steps.
This lecture was expected to inspire ITB students to develop strong brand loyalty, as PT Mayora already accomplished. It also served to exemplify the importance of innovation, hard work, and collaboration in sustaining a company in the global market.
