JATINANGOR, itb.ac.id – Amidst the rapid evolution of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the increasing polarization of social media, the fundamental values of the Indonesian nation are facing unprecedented tests. In response to these challenges, ITB’s Directorate of Preparatory Education (DITSAMA) hosted a Pancasila Guest Lecture (WI1101) titled "Pancasila as the Architecture of National Values in the Era of Disruption" on Friday (April 24, 2026).

The event, held in a hybrid format at the GKU 2 Building, ITB Jatinangor Campus, and streamed via Zoom and YouTube, featured Major General (TNI) M. Imam Gogor A. A., S.I.P., M.Han., Head of SMA Taruna Nusantara Magelang, as the keynote speaker. The lecture was attended by over 2,500 students from the Common Preparatory Level (TPB) Class of 2025.

Pancasila: A Living Foundation, Not Just a Document

The Director of DITSAMA ITB, Prof. Dr. Fatimah Arifatino, S.Si., M.Si., emphasized in her opening remarks that in a world of borderless technology, the nation’s direction is often questioned.

"Pancasila is not merely a symbol or a document; it is the foundation of life and the value architecture that shapes how we think, behave, and act. It ensures that progress remains anchored in humanity," Prof. Fatimah stated.

The session began solemnly with the recitation of the ITB Student Value Commitment, reaffirming the students' pledge to uphold academic honesty, integrity, and ethical conduct both on and off-campus.

Navigating the Dark Side of Technology through National Values

Drawing from 26 years of service across the archipelago from Merauke to Aceh Maj. Gen. M. Imam Gogor highlighted that technology, including AI, is never neutral. It carries the moral values and responsibilities of its creators and users.

He dissected the relevance of the five pillars of Pancasila in addressing four major 21st-century challenges:

AI Ethics & Technology: The first and second pillars serve as safeguards for human dignity, preventing a "moral vacuum" caused by irresponsible algorithms.

The Digital Economy & Inequality: The fifth pillar stresses that economic innovation must ensure social justice for all, reaching remote villages rather than just benefiting a select few.

Social Media Polarization: The third pillar offers a solution to the "filter bubbles" and "echo chambers" that frequently trigger social conflict in the digital realm.

Digital Democracy: The fourth pillar reminds us that decisions should be rooted in wisdom and deliberation, rather than the fleeting pressures of "viral" trends.

Students as Architects of the Future

Maj. Gen. Gogor challenged ITB students to go beyond memorizing Pancasila and instead use it as a framework for decision-making. He reminded the audience that intelligence without integrity and ethics poses a significant risk to the nation.

"You are the leaders of tomorrow. The question is: will you build this nation using the correct architecture of values?" he challenged the students.
