BANDUNG, itb.ac.id — A total of 97 international students from various Schools and Faculties at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) participated in the International Orientation Day as part of the ITB 2026 New Student Admission (PMB) program. Held at the East Hall and surrounding areas of ITB Ganesha Campus on Wednesday (August 19, 2026), the event carried the theme “Connecting Cultures, Creating Futures” and provided an opportunity for students to become familiar with the academic environment while adapting to life in Bandung and Indonesia.

The event began with a welcome and an official address delivered by ITB Vice Rector for Communication, Partnerships, Alumni, and Administration, Dr. Andryanto Rikrik Kusmara, S.Sn., M.Sn. Representing the Rector and the entire ITB academic community, he officially welcomed the international students as they embarked on their academic journey at ITB.

He encouraged the students to make the most of their time at ITB not only by gaining knowledge, but also by broadening their perspectives, gaining new experiences, and contributing unique ideas to the academic environment.

“The time you spend at ITB is expected to be an opportunity to gain knowledge, broaden your horizons, gain experience, and contribute unique ideas to the ITB academic environment,” he said.

He also expressed his hope that the students would have a meaningful and enriching academic experience and create memorable experiences during their time at ITB.

The session continued with an introduction to Bandung and an overview of services available to international students, delivered by Head of the ITB Subdirectorate of International Mobility, Lia Amelia Tresna Wulan Asri, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D. Representing the ITB Partnership Bureau and International Relations Office (IRO), she welcomed the students and introduced the support services available to them throughout their academic journey at ITB.

IRO ITB provides various services, including assistance with immigration and residence permits, the Buddy Program, accommodation support, and Indonesian language classes. “Through the Buddy Program, international students will be paired with ITB students who can help them adapt to the campus environment and everyday life,” she explained.

The students were also introduced to Bandung as an educational city with a conducive environment and a cool climate, surrounded by mountains. Bandung is also known as one of Indonesia’s centers of creative industries and culture, offering a rich variety of Sundanese cuisine and relatively easy transportation access from Jakarta.

Getting to Know ITB’s Academic System and Digital Services
One of the key sessions of the orientation was Academic Information, delivered by Head of the Subdirectorate of Educational Monitoring and Evaluation, Nurrohman Wijaya, S.T., M.T., M.Sc., Ph.D. The session provided students with an overview of ITB’s academic system to help them prepare for their studies.

The presentation covered the basics of ITB’s Academic Information System (SIX), course registration procedures, credit transfer processes and academic facilities, as well as an introduction to the academic system and EduNex. Students were also given an opportunity to ask questions during the Q&A session.

The orientation continued with an information session from the Directorate of Facilities and Information Systems on the use of academic SIX accounts. Vice Director for Information Systems and Technology, Achmad Imam Kistijantoro, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., provided technical guidance on activating and completing the SIX account portal.

The session was designed to be practical as well as informative, allowing students to directly practice and simulate the use of the system. Through this session, students are expected to be better prepared to access ITB’s digital academic services from the beginning of their studies.

In addition to academic matters, international students received an introduction to Indonesia’s immigration regulations. Representative of the Immigration Office Class I Bandung, Duwi Riyadi Putra, S.Sos., M.Sc., explained basic immigration requirements for international students, including technical information on visas and the issuance and extension of Limited Stay Permit Cards (KITAS).

This briefing was an important part of the orientation to ensure that students understand the regulations they are required to follow while residing and studying in Indonesia.

Creating Opportunities for Cross-Cultural Interaction
The International Orientation Day was not limited to information sessions. Students were invited to explore ITB Ganesha Campus through a campus tour accompanied by their buddies. The activity gave students an opportunity to become familiar with campus facilities while interacting more closely with ITB students.

The students were then introduced to representatives from their respective Schools and Faculties. This session allowed them to gain more specific information about their academic environment and engage directly with representatives from their respective academic units.

The atmosphere became more informal through a mingle with buddies session and lunch. These informal interactions between international and ITB students were expected to help students build friendships and strengthen their adaptation to their new environment.

The event also featured a series of traditional games and competitions commemorating the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, including team wooden-clog races, sarong relay races, straw challenges, and cracker-eating competitions. The orientation concluded with a karaoke session.

Through International Orientation Day 2026, ITB seeks to provide comprehensive preparation for international students, covering academic readiness, immigration information, cultural and environmental orientation, as well as student well-being support. The program also serves as an early platform for fostering cross-cultural interaction and creating an inclusive and enriching academic experience for students from diverse backgrounds.
