Voyage 2026 Showcases Physics Engineering Students’ Works Addressing Community Issues

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id — The 2025 cohort of Physics Engineering students at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) held Voyage 2026, an exhibition showcasing student projects at Lapangan Cinta, ITB Ganesha Campus, on Saturday (September 12, 2026). Open to the public free of charge, the exhibition featured a range of student works developed from efforts to understand issues faced by communities and explore ideas to address them.
Project Officer of Voyage 2026, Jonathan Diego, said the event was part of the students’ learning process, allowing them to apply knowledge gained in the classroom to projects that could provide benefits to the community.
According to Jonathan, the name Voyage, meaning “journey,” represents the students’ process of identifying issues, understanding community needs, and developing ideas and solutions. The exhibition marked one of the final stages of their learning journey and a process of growing together as the 2025 cohort of Physics Engineering students.
“Voyage 2026 aims to show the community that change begins with personal awareness of an issue and an idea,” Jonathan said.

The broad scope of Physics Engineering encourages students to be flexible and adaptive in analyzing a wide range of issues. This approach was reflected in the diversity of projects developed by each group based on the issues they selected.
Throughout the development process, the students utilized various thinking tools and incorporated mechanical, electrical, and programming elements according to the needs of each project.
Through their works, the students sought to demonstrate that efforts to create change do not necessarily have to begin with highly advanced technology. Awareness of issues in the surrounding environment, combined with a willingness to learn and refine ideas, can serve as an initial step toward developing solutions.
“From these issues, the bridge toward solutions is built through the determination to learn, iterate, evaluate, and take action,” he said.

To ensure that the ideas developed by each group could be understood by visitors from diverse backgrounds, the committee established presentation standards emphasizing interaction and approachable communication. This approach was intended to allow visitors not only to enjoy the exhibited works but also to understand the issues and messages behind each project.
Preparation for Voyage 2026 took approximately three weeks. Jonathan said that one of the main challenges was aligning the cohort’s vision and working rhythm amid the diverse personalities of its members.
To address this, the students held weekly face-to-face meetings to align their understanding, coordinate tasks, and ensure that each part of the event proceeded according to plan.

These efforts contributed to the successful implementation of the exhibition, which received positive responses from visitors. On the day of the event, Voyage 2026 welcomed 529 visitors, exceeding the committee’s initial target of 500.
Jonathan said visitors also responded positively to the presentations at each booth. The presentation standards established by the committee made the sessions comfortable and easy for visitors to follow.
Moving forward, the experience and evaluation from Voyage 2026 will be systematically documented. The documentation is expected to serve as a learning resource for similar initiatives by other cohorts, including those organized by other departments or faculties.
