Represent Indonesia with Success, CIMOL Team of ITB Won ASEAN Microsoft Imagine Cup 2017

JATINANGOR, itb.ac.id – The excellence of ITB is peaked when its students won the 1st place in the ASEAN Microsoft Imagine Cup 2017. Being the best out of 521 students from various regions in Indonesia is an honor to CIMOL Team ITB. After a tight selection and arriving on national final, the five finalists presented the final result of their developed apps. CIMOL Team as the sole winner then departed to Manila, the Philippines on Sunday-Wednesday (23-26/04/17) to meet and compete with champions of other South East Asia countries.

Adinda Budi Kusuma Putra, Feryandi Nurdiantoro, and Tifani Warnita (Electrical Engineering 2013) leave their mark for the motherland. Adinda said that his team feels happy and honored with the success. It is an honor for him to represent Indonesia on the South East Asia final in Manila. Hoax Analyzer apps was programmed to reduce the amount of hoax information (fake news, -red) circulated. Adinda hope this invention will bring benefit to people in Indonesia and the World.

Emphasizing Character to Win
The team was inspired by the amount of Hoax circulating in social media and its negative effect to the social life of the society. The tool was able to be realized thanks to the capacity and support of the mentor. Additionally, CIMOL Team won not solely because of the physical form of the work. It is the character, along with unique and different design concept that is able to give added value. These students of ITB solve the problems that arise in global environment. According to Feryandi, other competitors raise topics about health on their works. The key of success of Feryandi and his team is to raise a totally different and universal topic.

Hoax Analyzer, an Innovation and Solution
Hoax analyzer is a web application programmed to help users analyze whether the news, both in text and picture, is a hoax or a fact. Utilizing various advanced technology such as Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing, the Hoax Analyzer will analyze and asses the processed information, complete with references and sharing feature to social media. Coming from technological Alma mater, this app by Cimol Team also represents the related sciences. “We hope the app is useful to Indonesian and inspiring (others) to compete,” concluded Feryandi.
