BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - From campus organizations to the global energy stage, students of the Bandung Institute of Technology continue to demonstrate their global presence. The Society of Petroleum Engineers Bandung Institute of Technology Student Chapter (SPE ITB SC) concluded its 2025/2026 term with a number of strategic achievements, coinciding with the organization’s 37th anniversary.

This milestone was marked by the launch of the special edition magazine “37 Years of Excellence,” which summarizes the journey, achievements, and spirit of excellence consistently upheld by successive generations of members. The 2025/2026 President of SPE ITB SC, Firzan Annas As-shidiq, emphasized that the publication serves as a reflection of the process undertaken over the course of the one-year term.

“This is not merely a documentation, but a reflection of how the spirit of excellence continues to be realized through tangible works and impacts,” he said.

Throughout this period, SPE ITB SC organized 101 programs involving thousands of participants and hundreds of industry professionals. Collaborations with various international organizations further expanded students’ learning opportunities, while solidifying SPE ITB SC’s position as the world’s largest student chapter with over 2,000 members. For these achievements, SPE ITB SC received the 2025 Presidential Award for Outstanding Student Chapter from SPE International.

At the international level, achievements were also made through the PetroBowl competition. The ITB team made it into the world’s Top 16 at the SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE) 2025 in Houston, United States, after previously securing third place in the Asia-Pacific regional qualifiers in Malaysia. This experience served as a key milestone demonstrating the students’ readiness to compete on a global stage.

“Participating in this competition has made us more confident in competing against participants from various countries,” said one of the team members

In line with this, the 2026 Integrated Petroleum Festival (IPFEST) also had a wide-reaching impact. Organized jointly with HMTM “PATRA” ITB and IATMI SM ITB, the event attracted more than 1,200 participants from Indonesia and abroad, and showcased innovation through a Hackathon competition in collaboration with various industry partners.

Beyond focusing on competitions, SPE ITB SC also provided hands-on field experience through the Big Field Trip program to Pertamina EP Cepu and the Sukowati Field. During this activity, students had the opportunity to observe industrial operations firsthand and engage in discussions with professionals, thereby gaining a real-world understanding of how knowledge is applied in the field.

Appreciation for the consistency and quality of SPE ITB SC also came from the 2026 SPE President, Jennifer L. Miskimins. She noted that SPE ITB SC has demonstrated its role as an active student chapter that excels technically and is globally connected.

Through these various achievements, SPE ITB SC has not only established a track record of success but has also created opportunities for students to grow. From the campus to the global stage, every experience contributes to shaping a generation ready to tackle the challenges of the future energy industry.
