Teams of Students of ITB Earn Achievements in Integrated Petroleum Competition 2019

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Teams of students of Institut Teknologi Bandung earned several achievements in Integrated Petroleum Competition (INCEPTION) 2019 organized by Universitas Diponegoro 8-9 November 2019. The competition was participated by representatives of various universities in Indonesia.

ITB sent a number of teams to the competition, such as KANAN, SENSOR, and DAHAN. KANAN consist of members Aulia Ikhsan Nur Alam, Saif Izeldien Raizki, and Dennis Deviandoni who won the 1st place in case study competition. SENSOR which consist of the sole member Ricky Sahat Manahan won the 1st place in paper competition. DAHAN which consist of member Dias Gabriel, Nofril Zendriardi, and Hanif Indra Rajasa won the 2nd place of smart competition. All these team members are students of Petroleum Engineering of ITB.

Each category of competition has respective theme. Case competition carried the theme ‘actualize the production of million barrels of oil per day in Indonesia’ where, in the preliminary round, each participating team should give a solution to a problem in the form of an essay, and the advancing teams will be given different case and had to present the solution.

According to Saif Izeldien, a student of Petroleum Engineering class of 2016, every team member should master the topic. This was intended to make team members to back up each other amidst their tight schedule as final year students.

“In division of our job desc, we design a process framework and presentation layout. After it is fixed, we execute the technical. Then, other team members evaluate the financial and add new innovation to be applied,” he said.

In case competition, KANAN make innovation of oil enhancement using two methods, Enhance Oil Recovery (EOR) and Infill Drilling. From these two methods, feasibility study and risk management were conducted to determine the methods to solve problems.

“The concept of the competition was more about decision making, we were given cases and then asked to solve the problem using EOR (Enhanced Oil Recovery) or Infill Drilling. We determine which method is better for use,” said Dennis Deviandoni, a student of Petroleum Engineering class of 2016.

Previously, KANAN also participate in PETROFEST UI 2019 and they become the number one winner of case study competition. According to them, participating in competition is not only about competing and winning, but also to apply the knowledge they learn in university. Because in the process of preparation for the competition, they get many experiences and knowledge, such as a good teamwork.
