BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Eldwin Pradipta, an alumnus of the Visual Art Study Program of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at Institut Teknologi Bandung (FAD ITB), has achieved success as a contemporary artist specializing in the field of new media art.

New media art involves creating art using unconventional mediums, such as video and digital projection. Eldwin's interest in this field stemmed from his passion for both computers and art. While initially considering visual communication design, he found that fine art offered more freedom and broader exploration opportunities.

The turning point in Eldwin's career came in 2008 when the FAD ITB Intermedia Arts Studio was established. The studio accommodates cross-disciplinary mediums, including media arts. Eldwin became increasingly dedicated to this field.

"I never envisioned a career as an artist, but conversations with seniors in the Visual Art Study Program started to enlighten me, and I became interested in exploring it," shared Eldwin, a 2008 Visual Art alumnus from FAD ITB.

His doubts started to fade away when Eldwin worked on the ITB Visual Art Pre-Thesis project. This project became a crucial milestone in his career.

Approaching graduation from ITB, Eldwin innovated his thesis by incorporating digital projections into landscape paintings. In this work, he modified landscape paintings by adding elements of "disaster" and "environmental damage."

"In the Pre-Thesis project, I intended to critique landscape paintings. The world of visual art tends to be explicit, and it has a small ecosystem, so many things can be criticized," explained Eldwin.

Eldwin's work on the Pre-Thesis project successfully made its way to the prestigious ArtJog exhibition in 2012. This success encouraged him to continue developing digital projection works even after graduating from ITB.

After two years of focusing on landscape painting in the Pre-Thesis project, Eldwin ventured into other innovations, including working in public spaces. In 2019, he was invited by the Indonesian Contemporary Art and Design (ICAD) to create artwork for an exhibition as part of Milan Design Week. This collaboration marked the beginning of a lasting relationship between Eldwin and ICAD, culminating in another joint project to commemorate Indonesia’s Independence Day at the Jakarta HI Roundabout last year.

"In the HI Roundabout project as a celebration of Independence Day, I did a digital projection on the water screen in the HI Roundabout pool," he said.

The year 2023 holds significant promise for Eldwin Pradipta, born in 1990. He had the opportunity to participate in and win the ArtPrize competition organized by the digital gold platform, Treasury, and ArtJakarta 2023. This success garnered attention from various media outlets, including Prestige Indonesia magazine.

Eldwin Pradipta's outstanding achievements in new media art testify to his working consistency. Realistically assessing the market has been Eldwin's consistent and artistic strategy.

"There is actually no specific way to be consistent in the field of art because most artists do not care about things outside themselves. You could say there is 'madness' in each artist," he remarked.

Currently, in addition to being an artist, Eldwin also works in the multimedia field. He plans to continue developing his career, hoping that his work will stand the test of time. His immediate plan includes holding a solo exhibition, which he aspires to realize soon.
