BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – On Wednesday, (6/6/2018), Aula Timur ITB looked livelier than usual with various works of textile and ceramic that were created by 30 students of Craft Study Program of ITB.

“This exhibition is one of the requirements for Craft students of ITB to graduate,” Dr. Gita Winata said as the Head of Craft Study Program of ITB. Each student was given a chance to explain their works to visitors on their 3x3 square meter booth.

This is not the first time the works of Craft students got displayed. As a big step to support ITB’s mission as Entrepreneurial University, the exhibition is a place to promote young craft entrepreneurs. “Currently around 60 – 70 % of Craft alumni has become entrepreneurs,” Gita said.

Fashion products dominate the exhibition. Among them is a work done by Veria Atiyasanta who explored rustic surface design.

Besides fashion, there was also pandanus weaving. The weaving which is one of Indonesian traditional heritage have philosophical value that relates closely to daily life of the community. Phang Desnica, the one behind the well-presented weaving, said that she explores the pandanus weaving in terms of the color, size, texture, and technique on various classic-modern fashion product.

Gita hopes the students can continue their works to higher level in the field of craft, both professionally or academically in Master’s or Doctor’s Program. “Best products created by the students will be selected and included in a fashion show at Paskal Bandung next July,” Gita Concluded.
